man that hotelier record is still prob my top "emo revival" release of the year, idk the melodies just grow so naturally out of each other and are so powerful. joyce manor is also the best

imo a bunch of the emo revival bands just aren't that interesting, including TWIABP, Into It, Modern Baseball, etc. You Blew It's OK.

But The Hotelier and Joyce Manor are both *awesome* ... or at least their 2014 records are.

between last year's rolling emo thread and this one i've developed a real loathing for the world is

i think the hotelier have great instrumentation, his voice is jussssttttttttt beyond the threshold of reediness/whininess for me though, idk. i know, i know, its not a thing to complain about in this genre/subgenre/movement/thing, but i find it hard to take sometimes. i will give it another go-round.

will check out this driver friendly band, appreciate all the tips. (also this is one of the better thread names i've encountered)

yeah i dont get the TWIABP hype at all it's half-assed explosions in the sky with choruses and inscrutable-ass lyrics, does sound pretty tho

TWIABP released an album or EP or something this year that appeared to be largely spoken word and it was pretty cringeworthy based on the couple of minutes I could stand to listen to it

coheed sucks and yes there is and no they are not because american football is fucking boring.

sucks is a strong word. my bad. just not my thing, mostly because of prob the most unlistenable voice aside from that simple plan dude. but yea, to their credit what they did was pretty original at the time, sonically.

Hotelier guy's voice is certainly on the line of too reedy/whiny, but I dunno ... it works for me. I guess he stays just on the right side of the line.

But the real draw on HOME LIKE NOPLACE IS THERE, for me, are the guitars. they just feel so ... i dunno, for lack of a better word: epic. i should explain that better, but am swamped right now ... but as just one example, the way the main guitar riff comes to life at :43 of "Among the Wildflowers" (and just the beautiful melodic arc of that little riff in general) is some life-affirming shit, man.

Joyce Manor's s/t debut is a bit of a modern classic imo, their 2nd one is good too but it's absurdly skimpy even by their standards

i remember when c&c/thrice and thursday were touring together - it was like the nirvana/pearl jam/soundgarden tour for emo kids!

I completely get why people don't like them, and On the Impossible Past did nothing for me at all, but I have been listening to the Menzingers' Rented World an awful lot lately. There's something satisfying about how basic and stubbornly unclever the lyrics are, especially in conjunction with the music, which is very polished and streamlined but still convincingly gloomy. Just the right amount of melodrama. Maybe it's just a symptom of the constant blah downer feeling that being back in school after a prolonged absence brings out.

i've never been able to get into their albums but i loved them when they opened for gaslight anthem
