I agree! I've barely been paying attention to juke this year but this compilation is sick

I saw Traxman and Litebulb the other weekend and watching Litebulb dance just made all this music *make sense* in a way that no quantity of Youtube videos ever could.

really excited to hear these.

idk why but a lot of the recent footwork hasnt done that much for me, unless its the core group of producers who have been repping it for years. not to be all purist, but im not that interested in what a lot of the international/non chicago producers are doing with it.

Really enjoying the DJ Manny & DJ Jalen "Cruise Control" EP. Creates a very somber mood while being incredibly fast paced and frenetic...something tells me that you might be able to describe much of this stuff that way but I love the way this album does it. "Tell the Truth" is so killer.

Non-Stop Erotic Calculus (bmus), Wednesday, 25 March 2015 16:40 (nine years ago) link

Hey everyone, please be advised that the Jlin album is completely fucking incredible.

raih dednelb (The Reverend), Monday, 30 March 2015 03:41 (nine years ago) link

jlin easily one of the best footwork albums out there. she sounds so diff to everyone else too.

StillAdvance, Monday, 30 March 2015 11:16 (nine years ago) link

Yeah it's reignited my faith in footwork as a progressive genre. great record

why dont u say something or like just die (dog latin), Monday, 30 March 2015 11:38 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I feel like Double Cup and Space Zone are the only footwork full lengths I've enjoyed as much.

raih dednelb (The Reverend), Tuesday, 31 March 2015 10:36 (nine years ago) link

space zone is underrated, double cup i feel is quite overrated. rashad should get plenty of props for all the groundwork hes laid for footwork, but as a producer, traxman is heaps more accomplished, and actually just plain better (sorry to speak ill of the dead!)

StillAdvance, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 10:59 (nine years ago) link

the last track on jlin, with the 'im not one of your fans!' sample is brilliant. i love her samples.

StillAdvance, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 10:59 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, this Jlin album is destroying me.

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Thursday, 2 April 2015 16:29 (nine years ago) link

looking forward to checking it out. so far it sounds heavy on the 12/8 vibe.

lil urbane (Jordan), Thursday, 2 April 2015 18:04 (nine years ago) link

Don't wanna be all 'female electronic artist' about this but I could hear and see (in the vid) shades of gazelle twin, fka twigs and Holly herndon in her sound. It's very much footwork, but I could play them all back to back and it wouldn't be that jarring, you know?

but then again, who really cares? I don’t. (dog latin), Friday, 3 April 2015 00:27 (nine years ago) link

Don't wanna be all 'female electronic artist' about this but

how have you not learned not to start shit off like this

een, Friday, 3 April 2015 00:46 (nine years ago) link

^^^^

One of the tracks is a collaboration with Herndon tho.

The Reverend, Friday, 3 April 2015 00:47 (nine years ago) link

That Jlin record is spicy as fuck. Definitely face sweating and enjoying that burning sensation on my tongue. Can't wait to play it on a loud system.

octobeard, Friday, 3 April 2015 00:52 (nine years ago) link

xpost oh didn't know that. which one?

but then again, who really cares? I don’t. (dog latin), Friday, 3 April 2015 00:59 (nine years ago) link

"Expand"

The Reverend, Friday, 3 April 2015 05:19 (nine years ago) link

the jlin feels like a game-changer

ogmor, Tuesday, 7 April 2015 21:28 (nine years ago) link

i'm still waiting for dark energy to click for me. it's not as frenetic as other footwork stuff?

flopson, Tuesday, 7 April 2015 22:01 (nine years ago) link

feels like more of a listening than a dancing album, lots of cool drum programming, but doesn't truly groove

Free Me's Electric Trumpet (Moodles), Tuesday, 7 April 2015 22:14 (nine years ago) link

its def more head-pleasing, like its made for you to pay attention to the patterns. a lot of it makes me think of dubstep actually, though without ever sounding like shes trying to sound like dubstep. tbh i lost interest in a lot of the stuff by footwork producers that was trying to incorporate other genres (even that made by the original chicago guys), but jlin somehow integrates dubstep-friendly elements in a much smoother, more natural way.

that 'Ahhhhhhh' track is sweet. have a hard time with this stuff, a lot of it sounds pretty raw, w/excess, like trigger happy samples/percussion and questionable flows.. i like how machinedrum has a more easily digestible, almost like, bibio/post rock take on the music. the jlin dark energey stuff sounds well focused.

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 18:38 (eight years ago) link

So what have been the best juke/footwork releases this year? I've not really been keeping up
