says she's 47 in that - will officially be the oldest new cast member in the show's history if she gets bumped up (mckean was 46)
― da croupier, Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:27 (nine years ago) link
she is very funny. actually like the new episodes i've seen this season. they have more of an edge than in recent years.
― Daniel, Esq 2, Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:28 (nine years ago) link
they're bringing in more stand-ups and word is that they're increasingly hiring people who auditioned as performers to be writers, rather than people who submitted writing packets (i.e. leslie jones). i think it leads to a show more wildly hit-and-miss than when it's all ucb/second city/io ensemble types, but they probably needed to shake up the cruise control mode they've been in for a while.
― da croupier, Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:40 (nine years ago) link
they probably needed to shake up the cruise control mode they've been in for a while.
Letting the improv-trained cast actually improvise would be one way to do that.

I'm glad Mike O Brien is still around and getting to make these movies. I liked Growaguy.
― dan selzer, Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:47 (nine years ago) link
grow-a-guy was great. the aggressive bullying by that one guy was almost uncomfortable to watch, which can be a very good element on a show like snl.

the sketch embedded above is hilarious by modern SNL standards

I just ran across this guy's website:

he was on SNL once years ago and has sent Lorne Michaels like, 3000 letters since that he archives on his site.

the three singers chewing on garbage sketch was incredible
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Saturday, 3 January 2015 15:55 (nine years ago) link
I thought so too, but 1D fans were furious because airing that apparently meant dropping another sketch in which they were featured.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:06 (nine years ago) link
well that ruins everything
― ancient texts, things that can't be pre-dated (President Keyes), Sunday, 4 January 2015 03:24 (nine years ago) link
i could have sworn there were two sketches that had all five singers chewing on garbage
(do you see)

lol Sia is weird and terrible
I mean her stage shows specifically, which I guess are designed to distract you from the fact that she doesn't want to be on stage
― pelvic slang (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 18 January 2015 08:16 (nine years ago) link
Spoiler: there's a mime doing sign language.
― pelvic slang (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 18 January 2015 08:51 (nine years ago) link
I watched that. Sia with the visor or something hanging down so you couldn't see her face. I don't get her appeal, but she seems like the type of singer that Lady Gaga fans would like.
I liked the Bushwick Brooklyn sketch with Kevin Hart, Jay Pharoah and Keenan. Kate Mckinnon doing Justin Bieber's Calvin Klein ad also was kinda funny
― curmudgeon, Sunday, 18 January 2015 22:58 (nine years ago) link
Sure was a lot of death by gunfire in this episode.
Was hoping that the monitor would have never started working again in the Instagram show sketch. That would have been a delicious disaster considering that the whole premise rode on being able to see the photos.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 18 January 2015 23:00 (nine years ago) link
Yea, that mayo portion of the ending for the Bushwick Brooklyn sketch was a little unsettling.

JK Simmons and D'Angelo on 1/31

i didn't think it was so awkward, i like mooney's shtick
Was cracking up this week at how serious Kate & Aidy were on the "The Wishing Boot" song this week.
Michael Che seems to be settling into update pretty well. The Riblet bit with Bobby this week was great.

I've had that goddamn song stuck in my head for a couple of days now.

i don't think hosting SNL represents a financial windfall, or that a guy who did 4 Shrek movies needs one

According to Uproxx, the last time Murphy set foot on the “SNL” stage was February 25, 1984, with host Edwin Newman and musical guest Kool & the Gang
Not true; Eddie hosted on December 15, 1984 (with musical guest Robert Plant and the Honeydrippers). Probably the best episode that season, with one of Eddie's (and SNL's) all-time career highlights, the "White Like Me" short film.

haha how do you make a short list of the biggest stars to come out of SNL and Al Franken and Jimmy Fallon are on it but not Will Ferrell, Chevy Chase, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, ::trails off::
― some dude, Friday, 30 January 2015 17:38 (nine years ago) link
Al Franken is probably the only competition Eddie has in terms of "importance" because he literally shapes American policy these days
― uncle banmee who can remember his live posts (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 30 January 2015 17:39 (nine years ago) link
Jon Lovitz and Norm MacDonald are another couple of tethers that helped to barely hold the show together over chasms of near-cancellation.
― Runny Trumpet (Old Lunch), Friday, 30 January 2015 17:41 (nine years ago) link
yeah i guess the word could mean that. i was just thinking in terms of Stuart Smalley's box office record. (xp)
