Whiney and them talk about rock shitting the bed in this year's year end list thread but I'm p sure they're talking about some hybrid genre that sounds like Springsteen & the 'Mats spliced together that is guaranteed to shit out the greyest sounding music ever

fair, I wasn't gonna go further than that

weird thing is - obviously this has been said more eloquently by others - when people say rock is dead I think it's in terms of rock as a mono cultural force that dominates the conversation. still plenty of good and great rock/guitar albums out there altho most are shoved into subgenres

i figured the thread was inspired by some notion that "rock is dead" (ha, ha, come up with even one good rock album of the 2000s). i put in a list mostly just to say that notion is wrong.

but i was wrong. thread's legit asking for a single disc choice. got it.

What's "rock"? Is MIA "rock"? Is Kanye "rock"? If not, why not (other than race/gender/nationality)?

How about Bob Dylan (and I'll take Love and Theft over o.nate's Modern Times)? If not, why not?

Are guitars required? Why? Is a particular tone or way of playing guitars required? You sure? Is syncopation allowed? You sure?
