I still find "See My Friend" startling. It's just this perfect blend of Ray's olde England perspective and psych overtones.

Yes, really great record. Watching them lip-synch this on Shindig, they are one of the few groups from the time who can keep from inappropriately smiling at the camera.
Has anybody ever done a thread on "precursors to the Velvet Underground sound"? Because Shangri-Las and records like Lou Christie's "Lightin' Strikes" (I'm thinking of the guitar solo more than the rest of the single), mixed with La Monte Young or something, could make for an instructive mix tape.
