So far, between my ears it's yet another year without a great film.

Yeah, for me as well. Nothing like Stray Dogs or Closed Curtain, both of whom I consider 2013. Perhaps Goodbye to Language or From What is Before or Lil Quinquin, which I'll hopefully see in 2015.

Stray Dogs was an outright disappointment to me, Closed Curtain a good variation on the preceding, better Panahi work.

Without seeing Stray Dogs or esp (as it seems to have been screened in London) Goodbye to Language I am not sure I can vote on any ILX best films of '14 poll :-(

All of my faves weren't as good as seeing catching some of the oldies for the first time by Akerman, Ozu and Hou. xp

Another 2013 release that wasn't matched by anything from 2014: How to Be a God. Still don't know what on earth I think about that one, but it was definitely special...

I just go by world premiere. And we hardly get to see everything first, just a lot of European/Asian fare. So stuff like Hard to be a God or Closed Curtain, but on the other hand we have to wait for stuff like Imitation Game and Unbroken, so it's about equal.

And more annoyingly, hardly anything ever gets actual premieres here. Hard to be a God just showed a single time back in april, on a friday afternoon, at the festival. Packed audience, though. Fun experience. Later that evening I saw Stranger by the Lake, then went drinking, then next morning saw Norte, pretty hungover. Good times.

Frederik the Danish tourist board should just give you a job (if you don't already work there). It does all sound v good!

Stranger by the Lake would be my Great movie of this year--since many critics are counting it as a '14 film, I will as well. Liked Boyhood a lot without being over the moon about it, but compared to the looks of this year's Oscar-bait, I sure won't begrudge it any awards. Would be completely in favour of a Supporting Actor win for Hawke, in fact.
