Today was really the first time all season I'd heard any chatter about Peyton retiring at the end of this season, so I'm not giving it a lot of creedence until that really begins looking like the case. But wow, he was terrible today.

we can rebuild him, we have the technology
― panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 12 January 2015 05:17 (nine years ago) link
I'm sure he'll be back and he'll probably have another good season (as bad as he was today and the last several weeks of the season I'm not buying that he's toast quite yet.) but they should pray they've clinched homefield 2 games before the end of next season so they can fully rest him as well as habitually sitting him during blowouts, it goes without saying he doesn't look built for a full 16 games plus a full playoff run anymore.

anyone who says a single positive word about the colt's defense this week is being ridiculous; they only had to defend the 8-10 yards in front of the line of scrimmage
― call all destroyer, Monday, January 12, 2015 4:43 AM (6 hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
haha cmon that is unfair. even if that was true you can defend 10 yards well or poorly but no def coordinator during that game is just saying fuck it, cover 0 all the way baby. the point with the 8 yard passes is that in man coverage the defender was always right on top of the receiver and if the pass was completed the tackle followed immediately. it was better than i have seen from them in the past.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 12 January 2015 11:47 (nine years ago) link
i guess, my point is it's hard to assess the defense based on what i saw because the broncos were not running nfl offense by the end of the game. peyton apparently doesn't have the arm strength to hit the sideline 10 yards downfield, at least i can't come up with another explanation for the decisions he was making.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 12 January 2015 12:43 (nine years ago) link
no that is true but they did what they were asked to well i guess
in denver's first drive he hit that delightful long ball to i think julius thomas down the left to put them at the 1. p much every deep sideline ball after that was horrible.

not scrambling for the easiest first down of his life in the 3rd quarter was pretty disappointing

manning, torn quad, happened a month ago, theyre saying

poking around on some broncos message boards and the most interesting thing i learned is that the broncos fans have a pretty open crush on gary kubiak. i'd think the connection to the shanahan era would be secondary to the fact that he has not demonstrated he is a better than average coach.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 12 January 2015 20:43 (nine years ago) link
it's just as much, probably more, the connect to elway, guys were very tight. and yes it's weird that ppl don't look at that houston experience and think twice.

i guess burning everything down and starting over is proactive at least. i can't say i really understand it at all tho. i mean if they win the next 2 games there is no way that happens right? how can 2 games be the difference between carpet bombing your coaching staff and keepin on truckin

― polyphonic, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:10 (nine years ago) link
basically all 29 coaches who don't win each year should be fired because accountability
that a 38yo dude with a torn quad was a better option than the backup qb was also the coach's fault

he was the only winner of keep your job russian roulette so props for that
i guess there is going to be a veteran exodus/firesale in the wake of this too. i think they have a ton of contracts up anyway.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:18 (nine years ago) link
they do have a bunch of starters up (6 or 7 iirc). some pretty easy decisions in there though, like remember when ppl thought julius thomas was really good?
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:20 (nine years ago) link
wait isn't j. thomas still really good? what did i miss?
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:23 (nine years ago) link
Only 489 receiving yards. He was basically a red zone target only this year.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:24 (nine years ago) link

huh. well i guess they have to spend money on at least demaryius and presumably terrance knighton out of those FAs coming up so maybe there is no JT money anyhow. someone will pay a lot for him i am certain.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:26 (nine years ago) link
why is there both a y and an i in demaryius thomas's first name?

mookie how do you feel about lebeau? was it time for him to legeau? feel like he has had increasingly little to work with. who is good on pburgh defense right now?
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:30 (nine years ago) link
my sense, despite watching essentially no games, is that the defense is shot. i mean it's cool that james harrison can come out of retirement and be a big contributor, but not a great sign.
i'm not sure quite what lebeau wants, at age 77, but i'll not say a bad word about him
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:37 (nine years ago) link
i work with multiple steelers fans and they are very down on the defensive talent on the roster.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:38 (nine years ago) link
i am glad he is still going to work, he is for certain one of those old guys who are held together by work, who retires and then dies a month later.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 03:41 (nine years ago) link
idk -- he can easily pass for 20 years younger; he'll probably outlive me
