badass is awful

ANU (sisilafami), Monday, 19 January 2015 17:25 (nine years ago) link

ehhhhhhhhh, it's actually not too bad. And this is coming from someone who detests "real hip hop". It has a loose vibe and is pleasant enough. He can live.

longneck, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:27 (nine years ago) link

no one should detest real hip hop

deej loaf (D-40), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:45 (nine years ago) link

There were quotation marks involved. Please do weigh in on the album though.

longneck, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:50 (nine years ago) link

the badass album is pretty enjoyable, barring the drum'n'bass stuff (heard that and was like O RLY? a roni size tribute?). even if the thinking behind the revivalist style can be reductive & disagreeable, i don't mind listening to the music itself.

speaking of revivalist-minded rappers, i feel like lupe fiasco has reached new levels of insanity and/or trolling with this track

it sounds like v fun goon stuff, interesting beat/production, also a trae the truth guest spot - but i figure since it's lupe, it has to be some sort of stealth attack on trap-rap or some similarly didactic shit...right?

the Warm Brew album - Ghetto Beach Boyz is out

really great so far! cool dirtbag LA stoner vibes

Dom Kennedy guests and I guess if I had to compare it to anyone it would be him

i dunno, maybe a little more like street version of Pharcyde in places?

loving it

Warm Brew signed to Dom Kennedy's new label opm i think. They had another tape 'the ride' I liked alright a couple years back but this new one sounds better

Spottie, Friday, 23 January 2015 18:05 (nine years ago) link

ah ok yeah that makes sense then, def that same kinda lackadasical vibe i like about Dom

like ultimately i wanted to like Odd Future cuz of the dirtbag skater cali vibe but those kids are just too wound up for me, they like Eminem too much

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 23 January 2015 18:13 (nine years ago) link

Loving the Future & Zaytoven tape.

longneck, Friday, 23 January 2015 18:56 (nine years ago) link

ah cool, no mind. I'll check it for sure if you're gonna be dumping from other genres and such, for sure.

Spottie, Saturday, 24 January 2015 02:52 (nine years ago) link

spent some time w/ Warm Brew, f/w it heavily ... there was one song i liked slightly less, it was a lil too fake dilla for me

deej loaf (D-40), Monday, 26 January 2015 02:10 (nine years ago) link

Spottie, Monday, 26 January 2015 05:14 (nine years ago) link

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 18:08 (nine years ago) link

hey guys - should i post new shit by old rappers on this thread or the hip hop retirement community thread?

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 19:56 (nine years ago) link

that thread exists?

Spottie, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:03 (nine years ago) link

link plz

Sounds like a forks display name (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:06 (nine years ago) link

anyway this is the video i was gonna post, grand daddy i.u. being grumpy over a kinda eerie diamond d. beat, i'm cool w/whatever ppl want, it's obv not very zeitgeisty but it is a new song so i'll defer

"give me some elbow room/
or go to war with a well-known goon"

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:08 (nine years ago) link

though i guess that could be a potential problem because like i'm sure dj quik or like e-40 are the same age-ish and ppl would probably care abt them

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:09 (nine years ago) link

yeah i see no reason why this thread can't be inclusive of old rappers. a lot of interesting things that happen in rap these days involve guys after they turn 35 and fall off the mainstream radar.

some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:20 (nine years ago) link

Some of them might even make an album that tops Pitchfork and P&J

, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:29 (nine years ago) link

we've always posted old head rappers in this thread, its like one of the core values

deej loaf (D-40), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:41 (nine years ago) link

Spottie, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 23:52 (nine years ago) link
