xpost thanks! I kind of rushed my ballot actually, but it meant I spent less time agonizing over whether or not to vote strategically.

The "hoy hoy hoy" in Catellena might be my favourite thing ever.

Already dissatisfied with this list as I forgot to vote for a couple of things (that I nominated!) and because I hadn't heard "Quarterback" until after casting my ballot. Weighted. What's bolded didn't place.

I thought The Bells might do better than 40 points from 3 voters.

Might make a playlist of Saer jams and play it in the woods behind my house later. Although walking through the woods with headphones on just feels wrong and also a bit creepy.

I posted that from a skyscraper in a city on a phone and couldnt check the spreadsheet, I am back in my natural habitat now and have been able to check the documentation and it appears I guessed my votes incorrectly as some of those dont appear, how you keep track of these things I have no idea. I think my actual votes were

Its a real problem for me as well, I like to hear a genial sound, but also if I dont take headphones, then there is the sound of the branches in the wind and the local cement factory in the distance, and who is to say which is better

I was delighted that Serebro picked up five votes, Dasha Charusha 3 and that i wasn't the only voter for VIA Gra. I'll happily buy all my fellow voters a drink.
These were my solo votes:
Fatima Erkenova - On Ne Tantsuyet, A On Porkhaet (5): I know next to nothing about Erkenova. I think she might be from Dagestan. I occasionally spend evenings watching amazing Kavkaz wedding dance videos on YouTube and this was the soundtrack to one of the best compilations. I've tracked down a few more of her songs and they're all excellent - a similar combination of pop hooks and intricate folk instrumentation. This inspired my first trip to the Caucasus last year. http://youtu.be/BaWdT_XHJe8
Tove Styrke - Borderline (6): Styrke's debut is one of the great electro-pop records of the last ten years but she seems to have gone in a completely different direction with her new material. Even If I'm Loud It Doesn't Mean I'm Talking To You attracted more attention but Borderline's weird quasi-reggae pop was much more addictive. http://youtu.be/7zhwihAXMlI
Elliphant ft. MØ - One More (7): Elliphant's Swedish dancehall queen persona is endearingly silly but her records are usually disappointing and i wasn't really sold on MØ's slightly drab electro last year. In combination they're a marvel, though. http://youtu.be/Sx1mHSo7ug4
Swet Shop Boys - Benny Lava (12): Heems from Das Racist and Riz Ahmed from Four Lions, Nightcrawler, etc. Kind of corny but works brilliantly with the sample. The EP is very good. http://youtu.be/gLlYykSUXLk
Emma Marrone - La Mia Citta (14): Italy's Eurovision entry - glorious glam-pop. http://youtu.be/XIV50wTsodA
SBPCH - Nelzya Skazat Koroche (15): Hypnotic Russian art-pop. I think Battles might be a close reference point. Less than 1800 views on YouTube for some reason. http://youtu.be/HXXJ8WCFuho
Brooke Candy - Opulence (21): "it's Marant or Laurent / it's McQueen or Celine / got these bitches so jealous / i hope they look good in green"
Donatan & Cleo - My Słowianie (23) Voted by the British public as the best song at Eurovision, possibly not unconnected to the amount of cleavage on display in the performance, it's a fabulous kind of ethno-pop / dancehall hybrid. "To jest ta gorąca krew, to jest nasz słowiański zew!" http://youtu.be/rr1DSgjhRqE
Far East Mention Mannequins - Fuck Boyz Get Money (24): Deeply silly Japanese pop-rap. http://youtu.be/QNtuAvGvRo8
Lyapis Trubetskoi - Voiny Sveta (25): A Belarussian group but the soundtrack of the Ukrainian Maidan revolution. Undeniably stirring in a way very little trad Russian rock is. http://youtu.be/kKJ_7SbtF4M

I'd love to know who was the other person who gave 30 points to the Mirkka & Madrugada tune, I didn't expect anyone else to vote for Brazilian forró sung and rapped in Finnish about Diego Maradona. :)

just finally got around to reading this thread, but I voted for it (well, before I lost my password and had to get a new account!) I think maybe you posted it on the rolling albums + tracks thread? I don't recall exactly where I found it, but it was a great recommendation, love the oy-oy's (not sure if they are actually saying something at that point, or just vocalizing? I sure don't speak finnish).
voted pooley no. 1, sad that more afro-pop didn't make it, where were all of the Y-Tjukutja voters!
