Dean of Local Sports vs. Dean of American Rock Critics
― Vic Perry, Monday, 26 January 2015 23:02 (nine years ago) link
dean's big into his local sports too, loves his rugby and gets down to the millenium stadium as often as he can, loves cardiff city and fancies himself as a bit of a rascal when he's on the terraces
he did a hilarious jpeg last year when they were taken over by a malaysian billionaire that made him look like a bond villain

When someone new starts posting, and this instant mania develops about who it is or isn't, it always reminds me of the big slab and the opening scene of 2001. I find it really, really weird.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 01:04 (nine years ago) link
yeah, i don't think it's strange to wonder and speculate, but sometimes people seem bizarrely convinced that someone would spend time inventing a naive, challopy persona and committing to it for weeks on end. but maybe this has happened before and i'm the naive one

i don't understand the question in this thread. plenty of reasons to change your handle, but it can also be a bit cloak and dagger.

― Get Ducked (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 13:17 (nine years ago) link
xpost I don't think the question is about posters changing their handles. It's about when lame new posters like Raccoon Tanuki show up and people go on a quest to prove that he's really Chris Ott sock or whatever.
― ancient texts, things that can't be pre-dated (President Keyes), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:18 (nine years ago) link
I think sometimes new posters show up speaking ILX lingo because they've been lurking for awhile before posting. RT actually seemed like a dude who stumbled on this board while googling Travis Scott, and got himself into a Cootie panic when he saw people writing about Taylor Swift and Charli XCX

Remember Treeship's earlier incarnation. But in general it is a lot of trouble to keep up, assuming you want to keep up, especially if you are not paying attention to ILX or the right threads on ILX when the transition occurs. Doesn't really matter of course, unless it is a poster you like and you wonder where they went or it is a poster you don't like and you want to maintain whatever filter, whether purely mental or browser doodad, that you use to deal with them.

― SCOTTISH PEOPLE ONLY (I M Losted), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:40 (nine years ago) link
there aren't any new posters
you can only register if your IP shows at least one previous registration. you can register multiple times without having been banned but you cannot register at all if you were not already registered. given that this is the system, it's no surprise that people wonder "who's this?" when a new poster arrives; the system is closed, this is an inherent quality of the system. all new posters are a poster we already know or knew under a previous name.
thought everybody understood this tbh
