Just finished it a few weeks ago but still not ready to talk.

I was just watching an episode of 90s antiques-based drama Lovejoy and there was a long shot with a kidnap victim handover that, if you swapped the rural Somerset landscape for New Mexico, could've been straight out of Breaking Bad.

Hank and Steve on the wall next to the door there?

hah good catch
amazing that this is gonna be a Netflix thing, you could do a wide theatrical release of this couldn't you?
― frogbs, Monday, 26 August 2019 20:38 (four years ago) link
I just learned that the guy who plays Skinny Pete is apparently 50! They wanted to cast an older guy playing a younger guy to show the ravages of meth.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 26 August 2019 20:46 (four years ago) link
i just watched GOOD TIME last night and i was wondering if Jennifer Jason Leigh was supposed to be playing someone her age or much younger, for similar drug ravages-related reasons.
― omar little, Monday, 26 August 2019 20:49 (four years ago) link
though she is someone who still seems a good decade or so younger than she really is.
― omar little, Monday, 26 August 2019 20:50 (four years ago) link
v much not interested in the latter day struggles of Jesse Pinkman, I have to say. By the end he was more of a totem than a character. Is Skyler gonna get an after-Breaking Bad movie too lol
― Οὖτις, Monday, 26 August 2019 20:52 (four years ago) link
me neither but I originally thought basing a show around the sleazy lawyer was a silly idea so what do I know
― frogbs, Monday, 26 August 2019 20:55 (four years ago) link
yeah i've stopped doubting gilligan and i'm just gonna go along with it

oh I was down with more Saul Goodman that from the getgo.

(granted I expected something totally different)
Maybe there will be a workplace comedy about Skylar and the car wash.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 26 August 2019 21:00 (four years ago) link
I thought she lost the car wash after Walt was outted as Heisenberg? She was working at a call center or something at the end.

lol I can't even remember. Give her a sitcom where she just gets a job at a car wash. "Do I have any experience? Boy, where to begin ..."

If they ever give Skyler her own series, it has to be called I Fucked Ted. They can tack on a subtitle if they want.

Are people not hyped for the new thing? It comes out tomorrow, I’m up for it although it looks like it might be a bit grim and oppressive (& I always thought the final shot of Jesse was enough). Will be good to go back to that world while we’re waiting for more BCS. For some reason whenever I try to anticipate what this film will be like I always just think of the movie good time

I’d be very happy with good time starring jesse pinkman tbh

There was a scene where he manipulates a teenage girl into buying meth at a gas station (can’t remember why) that was very similar to stuff rpatz does in that. Also they look exactly the same afaic

Jesse's character was dealt with in a pretty cursory way in the final season of BB so I see this as redressing the balance somewhat.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 10 October 2019 17:02 (four years ago) link
Watched the episode where Walt is fucked up and tells Junior about his father's Huntington's Disease the next morning and apologizes, even knowing how everything turns out there's a moment there when I would have been totally cool with a redemption arc.

El Camino was excellent. Highly recommended if you are a fan of the show.

Going to try to watch this tonight. I'm excited.

Definitely goIng to watch this as loved the show. My wife hasn’t seen the show, will she be able to enjoy it as a stand-alone film?
― Dan Worsley, Friday, 11 October 2019 16:56 (four years ago) link
If she's a person who can go into a movie/show that asks its audience to accept the ready-made world and to just go with it, probably.
Thinking through the main plot points (mind you, I got up a 4:30 a.m. because my cat is an asshole, and just stayed up to watch this so...I'm a little over my day already), there are a lot of references which make TOTAL sense to anyone who watched the show but which will go way over the head of anyone who didn't. A big part of the first half of the show is a flashback which will make sense MOSTLY, but will lack a good bit of context without having watched the show.
All that said, and without giving anything away, it moves very fast and works as its own story, but with some very obvious references to times and people past.

as much as i loved this show there is no way I'm going through the wringer of watching it all again just so i know what the hell's going on

I liked it. Had kind of a slow neo-noir/neo-Western vibe, less hyperactive than the show. A la Cold in July or a less sadistic Zahler
― Simon H., Friday, 11 October 2019 22:58 (four years ago) link
Really good. Hadn't watched a second of the show since the last episode aired. I remembered things as it went along. I don't imagine enjoying it so much without having seen the show (to an earlier question here), but that'd be interesting...

OBLIQUE SPOILER
There was one last cameo near the end I didn't really need but it wasn't a huge eyeroll or anything.

Cranston walks by in the background and puts on the hat, winks to camera
― Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Saturday, 12 October 2019 00:30 (four years ago) link
I enjoyed this. I wish they'd traded the last 2 cameos for one of Jesse and Saul Goodman hustling past each other and not having time to chat. (I don't remember the details of Saul leaving ABQ so he may already have been gone by the time of this story.)
― WmC, Saturday, 12 October 2019 01:42 (four years ago) link
I enjoyed this too but have no need to ever watch it again.
― Yerac, Saturday, 12 October 2019 02:45 (four years ago) link
