The great Horn of Aroo sounded. "Aroooooooooo," went the horn.

Really wondering what it's going to be like on the Lannister's side, they've been in power so long that it's going to be odd seeing them scramble to pick up the pieces and defend themselves from Dorne family. Also seeing Stannis and Littlefinger becoming players and what Varys is going to do when he's not officially serving. Really looking forward to this.

I just discovered there's no Bran in the upcoming season and it's the best news I've had all week.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 12:08 (nine years ago) link

Hopefully no Sansa, Khaleesi, or Jon Snow either

Free Me's Electric Trumpet (Moodles), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 12:47 (nine years ago) link

yeah hopefully none of the characters are in it, just the title sequence for an hour.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 13:00 (nine years ago) link

13 straight episodes of the hound's corpse decomposing in real time iirc

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 13:01 (nine years ago) link

i am hoping this season has more prominent roles for munch and ice t

I must be one of the very few people who actually likes Daeneyrs' storyline. I don't think Emilia Clarke is very good though.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 13:07 (nine years ago) link

the dany storyline is good imo, but what's left of it from the books (without being specific) is prob gonna elicit many of the same complaints it did last season, and clarke's acting, while basically decent and occasionally v effective, is not quite up to the task in terms of making the political aspects of it compelling as television

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 13:15 (nine years ago) link

No Sansa? Even with her seemingly becoming Littlefinger's partner in crime? I'm looking forward to that.

I've read there are some radical forthcoming changes from the books because Feast and Dance are so sprawling and fans generally seem to have found them disappointing and overlong.
I read a spoiler last year about the "Stoneheart" stuff and I'm gutted they're not doing it in the tv show because that sounded like one of the most awesome things to ever happen in the story (if you don't know, it's probably best not to look it up because, who knows, they might play that card later). Their reasons for cutting it sounded fair, but still, it seems like they are leaving out one of the major highlights.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 13:30 (nine years ago) link

The Stoneheart thing is a great reveal but GRRM has done nothing with it for like two books now.

Take it to the spoilers thread gents

Yah sorry, was tryig to be oblique but still a bit out of order I realise.

I'm a bit worried, the showrunners seem to know what they're doing (they're adamant about keeping it down to 7 seasons even though HBO wants 10) and can improve on lots of things but I think it might be a lot weaker if they don't have finished books to adapt.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 14:02 (nine years ago) link

tbh you could flip it and say the books might turn out better this way

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 14:08 (nine years ago) link

Could go either way; the showrunners are certainly less self-indulgent than George, but they've yet to prove they can come up with the same calibre of concepts and twists.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 14:11 (nine years ago) link

Luckily, we've been talking about this with George for a long time, ever since we saw this could happen, and we know where things are heading. And so we'll eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going; there might be a few deviations along the route, but we're heading towards the same destination. I kind of wish that there were some things we didn't have to spoil, but we're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. The show must go on ... and that's what we're going to do.

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 14:14 (nine years ago) link

I'm glad. The show is much better than the books. Now Martin can focus on the plot twists and not waste his time embedding them in thousands of pages of purple prose

But aren't a lot of the best and funniest lines taken from the books? Maybe George Will script more of the show.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 14:25 (nine years ago) link

Winds Of Winter and A Dream Of Spring reminds me so much of Color Of Spring and Spirit Of Eden that I keep subconsciously anticipating a late Talk Talk flavoured ending.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 14:28 (nine years ago) link

Maybe George Will script more of the show.

oof, unfortunate capital W there!

Josh in Chicago, can you pull off a George Will game of thrones pastiche?

demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 14:32 (nine years ago) link

George Will might have scripted that rape scene with Jaime and Cersei

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 14:48 (nine years ago) link

I have not got a clue about George RR Martin's politics, if any, but flags get waved in his books while he writes about hard times. He is no craven, and the recitation of beheadings and other problems always seems punctuated by a bleak, dire warning: "Winter is coming."

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 15:51 (nine years ago) link

(I think the only George Will I've ever read is his boneheaded Springsteen review.)

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 15:52 (nine years ago) link

GRRM is a lib

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 15:54 (nine years ago) link

That was my almost word for word echo of the George Will Bruce essay. "I have not got a clue about Bruce Springsteen's politics," etc.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 15:58 (nine years ago) link

Though of course GRRM totally reminds me of John Milius.
