i maintain that they shd just release entire runs of a show on the same day its better in a lot of ways and in fact there shd be infinite episodes of any show

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 April 2015 16:32 (nine years ago) link

OMG THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER/WORSE/DIFF THAN THE BOOKS

lag∞n, Sunday, 12 April 2015 16:33 (nine years ago) link

Review copies? Why is there review copies? I thought tv critics watched everything with the rest of us, apart from special premieres of a first episode that only a relative few will see along with the big fans.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 12 April 2015 17:27 (nine years ago) link

early reviews hype the show. not that this one really needs hype i guess but why not

head clowning instructor (art), Sunday, 12 April 2015 17:49 (nine years ago) link

I was wondering why there were suddenly a number of episodes available.
Thought it might be like a Netflix multiple episodes released at the same time thing like Orange is the New Black seems to do & I think Daredevil just did. Or is that another case of this?

Stevolende, Sunday, 12 April 2015 19:00 (nine years ago) link

This is quite a spoiler sensitive thing so I don't see what good giving critics more episodes is going to do, especially if it increases the risk of leaking.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 12 April 2015 19:15 (nine years ago) link

It just takes the pressure off of the first episode representing the entire season. Sopranos always screened the first four episodes for critics, to give a sense of the overall tone/plot/etc for the new season.

with HD lyrics (Eazy), Sunday, 12 April 2015 19:21 (nine years ago) link

That makes sense I suppose but at this point I don't think this show needs it.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 12 April 2015 19:33 (nine years ago) link

it's just HBO standard policy

Clay, Sunday, 12 April 2015 19:47 (nine years ago) link

Oh Jesus do I watch all four over the next few days then have to wait five weeks till the next one or do I try and eke them out, this is the hardest decision anyone has ever had to make.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Monday, 13 April 2015 00:49 (nine years ago) link

i watched them all they were p good

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 01:18 (nine years ago) link

i think a previous season of GoT also leaked a few early episodes midseason?
i'm perfectly happy waiting tbh. there's too much good tv out there already; i'm behind on shows i love anyway.

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Monday, 13 April 2015 01:43 (nine years ago) link

I guess we don't need two threads anymore.

slothroprhymes, Monday, 13 April 2015 03:02 (nine years ago) link

same. also just finished marathoning the leaked episodes. amazing.

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 13 April 2015 03:12 (nine years ago) link

I'm happy to wait week by week, but let's see if there's a cliffhanger or something and I might change my mind.

As for different threads, I think they should fully combine in season six, no? Maybe give this one more year of separation? I haven't read the books though so if those in the know think it's so far beyond it doesn't matter we should consider.

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 13 April 2015 03:29 (nine years ago) link

WRT spoilers can we stick to the broadcast schedule on these?

Feel like chaining the first four would be the worst approach to take because you're then just waiting a month for more episodes. On the other hand, chaining the first four...

Matt DC, Monday, 13 April 2015 11:06 (nine years ago) link

I watched one last night - then I watched another and it was 2am, later than I'd ever stay up if I am not out. The choice becomes pretty easy when you've watched one episode and enjoyed it.

The show is just coasting now, in a good way.

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Monday, 13 April 2015 11:11 (nine years ago) link

although at times I've started to feel visually reminded of The New Adventures Of Hercules, not solely due to Dario though he is definitely a big culprit.

Also can I just say again, that beardy wildling guy reminds me of Pirate Steve from Dodgeball.

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Monday, 13 April 2015 11:12 (nine years ago) link

so this thread is just going to be people saying that they downloaded the leaked episodes and then "5 weeks pass"

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Monday, 13 April 2015 15:17 (nine years ago) link

Yeah where's the discussion.

Does this show have a bigger budget now or was it all wasted on the dragon scene and the statue sliding down the pyramid scene?

Evan, Monday, 13 April 2015 15:20 (nine years ago) link

the budget afaik has increased steadily every year. in the seasons where theyve had big battles or other major sequences (blackwater, red wedding, purple wedding, wildling battle), theyve also shorted other episode budgets - mostly by engineering said episodes to not need as many effects/locations/etc. - to pour extra into battle episodes.

slothroprhymes, Monday, 13 April 2015 15:31 (nine years ago) link

like the wildling battle episode cost like 12 million on its own according to the director neil marshall in an interview, iirc

slothroprhymes, Monday, 13 April 2015 15:32 (nine years ago) link

That still sounds fairly cheap actually, a movie looking as good as that episode would only be twice as long, and cost maybe ten times as much.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Monday, 13 April 2015 15:37 (nine years ago) link

the little girl playing young cersei did a great job - you could clock who she was supposed to be almost immediately from the tone in her voice

Felt pretty bummed about losing Ciaran Hinds tbh.

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 13 April 2015 15:54 (nine years ago) link

right? he was great

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 13 April 2015 15:58 (nine years ago) link

stannis is such a cunt, i'd burn before kneeling to that prannet too

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 13 April 2015 16:01 (nine years ago) link

One of the most concise ways I've ever seen of character establishment was that comment, "we all know what Stannis is." from the first season, before we had ever seen him or really know anything about him.

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 13 April 2015 16:12 (nine years ago) link

i kind of dig stannis and his moral absolutism less psyched abt his crazy religious fanaticism tho it is understandable in the context. was hoping for some assassin school arya (assuming that's where she's headed at least) but perhaps in subsequent eps.

also totally unsure where the plot is headed right now, feels like this season could go in any direction and im not sure if that's a good thing yet

head clowning instructor (art), Monday, 13 April 2015 16:26 (nine years ago) link

feel like i have a p good sense of the plot through like ep 4 after that not sure

Interesting how they've made Sansa look more like her mother (or Littlefinger has).

Is this the first time they've ever used flashbacks? I didn't think they'd ever do that because there's been so much talk of past events that other makers would have used flashbacks for.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 00:58 (nine years ago) link

Yes, Ciaran Hinds was good in the episode.

Really puzzled as to how exactly anyone could control dragons like that unless you had wargs working in shifts on them.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 01:05 (nine years ago) link

Annoying that the witch in the flashback was a rumpled hottie instead of the horrible old crone of the books, does every little thing have to be sexy in this fuckin thing?

demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 01:06 (nine years ago) link

Kinda annoyed me that I never got to see Tyrion wash his hands clean.

Caved and watched all 4. Sort of wish the whole show had been paced like this.

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 05:10 (nine years ago) link

Pretty good opening episode, even without any Arya scenes. One thing I noticed was that Winterfell is no longer a smoking ruin in the opening credits. Also, it's interesting to see that Daenerys is losing control of her dragons, and her role as the great white saviour is beginning to fall apart. This season, though, I'm mainly looking forward to the continuing adventures of Tyrion and Varys, and also them eventually meeting - and riding - the dragons.
Can't wait 'till next week... but I will.

they're really driving the King's Landing and Sansa plots pretty damn fast this season!
