is that honey cocaine ep entirely produced by dj carisma? i love it

lex pretend, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 16:07 (nine years ago) link

i feel like his drops are on all the songs?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 April 2015 16:13 (nine years ago) link

lex pretend, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 16:14 (nine years ago) link

deej loaf (D-40), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 16:43 (nine years ago) link

xp i think shes just hosting the EP rather than producing it?

just sayin, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 21:20 (nine years ago) link

turns out that cici single could actually be enlivened by a judicious remix!

ATL Bass remixes always improve the originals.

longneck, Thursday, 16 April 2015 08:54 (nine years ago) link

truth

new zaytoven-produced shanell is alright, primarily reminds me of what i love about some of her vocal tics, like the way she ends a lot of her lines with this sort of aggressive gasp rather than drifting off sensually as you might expect

lex pretend, Thursday, 16 April 2015 10:23 (nine years ago) link

that first shanell mixtape came on afterwards and my goodness it is still straight fire tho

that's really great, pretty hyped for her now

lex pretend, Friday, 17 April 2015 08:43 (nine years ago) link

Alive is nice but DAAAAAAAMN "Jealous", as nice a nu-aaliyah sound as i've heard lately

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Yp7TeNr7p8

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Friday, 17 April 2015 14:48 (nine years ago) link

"alive" is really good, the songwriting is very in a dr. luke style but the production doesn't quite go there (thankfully)

J0rdan S., Friday, 17 April 2015 14:52 (nine years ago) link

she sounds acoustic arrangements really well

lex pretend, Friday, 17 April 2015 14:59 (nine years ago) link

I'm still totally charmed by this Tamia single, which has a video now

yes same here, wish the radio stations in my area would play it :(

dyl, Friday, 17 April 2015 21:45 (nine years ago) link

I've got to the head-over-heels stage with Honey Cocaine

lex pretend, Friday, 17 April 2015 22:33 (nine years ago) link

The Honey Cocaine EP is great.

My favourite is probably 'Done Done', mainly because it features the great diss 'what type of man has a heart as small as his dick'.

gregus, Sunday, 19 April 2015 05:40 (nine years ago) link

damn that tamia track is really great

j. winters (josh), Sunday, 19 April 2015 07:47 (nine years ago) link

it's one of my faves from this yr

bae sremmurd (monotony), Sunday, 19 April 2015 11:13 (nine years ago) link

Getting a lot of John Legend vibes from that

misterjoshua, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 05:54 (nine years ago) link

listening to that new kehlani right now, really enjoying it so far

j. winters (josh), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 06:11 (nine years ago) link

listened through twice so far and I think most of my favorite tracks have already been released but it's a good tape overall. I think I preferred how succinct her previous one was because songs like Bright and The Letter kind of stunt the mood (especially since they're the longest tracks here aside from The Way).

misterjoshua, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 08:59 (nine years ago) link

looking forward to the kehlani, didn't realise it was coming so soon!

new sevyn streeter is a lovely low-key thing:

lex pretend, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 10:50 (nine years ago) link

oh yeah and i have upgraded the honey cocaine ep from "pretty great" to "near-flawless", i love her

lex pretend, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 11:03 (nine years ago) link

also i know that this thread is, in general, determined to let estelle pass it by but this deep cut from her new album is just a brilliantly performed and written song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKf7XZzYN1U

lex pretend, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 11:06 (nine years ago) link

this kehlani album is pretty brilliant imo. a lot more plain-spoken than i expected. she really lays it all out there.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 12:57 (nine years ago) link

Like that Seven track. Hope she gets a full-length soon

Evan R, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 14:22 (nine years ago) link

That Sevyn Streeter song is lovely.

The New Gay Sadness (cryptosicko), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 14:28 (nine years ago) link

that estelle lex posted is pretty flimsy, though much of the album is enjoyable.
the kehlani is lovely, wanna try more.
as the artist specific thread has been tanooki'd, what does an R&B thread think about the new Janelle Monae
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OkB6p_FZAw

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 14:30 (nine years ago) link

fwiw, i think the song is pretty awful but likely just a dispensable cut/populist outlier for whatever the new album is; she does that

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 14:34 (nine years ago) link

yeah dreadful song

Evan R, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 14:38 (nine years ago) link

Good song. Going to be huge.

longneck, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 14:49 (nine years ago) link

bad song, not going to be huge

dyl, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 15:50 (nine years ago) link

i'm feeling this sevyn streeter song tho

dyl, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 15:52 (nine years ago) link

"Unconditional" off the new Kehlani is fire

deej loaf (D-40), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:28 (nine years ago) link

i feel like i know what "4th Street" is interpolating... anybody wanna help? sounds like late 80's stevie wonder.
it's a nice song.

trilogy of: Trendy Norway - Mainstream America - Remixed in London

Cashmere Cat - Adore Feat Ariana Grande (MssingNo Remix)
https://soundcloud.com/mssingno/cashmere-cat-adore-feat-ariana-grande-mssingno-remix

does this track get the lex approval?

djmartian, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 21:35 (nine years ago) link

I actively dislike Janelle Monae's music (she's a great performer) aside from a few songs but that song is definitely among her worst.
Don't see a reason to listen to that when i can hear that Jidenna song too.

misterjoshua, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 21:52 (nine years ago) link

Also, Yoga is appearing on the Eephus EP (5 songs), not Monae's own album afaik. Should be out relatively soon.
I initially thought Eephus was gonna be Jidenna's own thing but it's actually showcasing Wondaland Records as a whole.

omg @ baby kehlani

yeah this has been in my head all day

bae sremmurd (monotony), Friday, 1 May 2015 07:14 (nine years ago) link

yeah that's one of my favourites, i like how she gives the ~flaws and all trope a slightly novel and distinctive-to-her twist, presenting it as an ultimatum like that

very into "you should be here", "jealous" and "yet" as well
