I actually only saw Kwai and Ben-Hur each for the first time this month. They both kind of fall into the same category, for me--namely, I have no strong feelings toward them either way, but if they prove anything, it is that 1950s Oscar-bait is a helluva lot more entertaining than the 21st century variety (butt-numbers that they both are, I'd rather sit through both a second time than watch Birdman again). I've only seen parts of Lawrence, which I should definitely correct some day.

So yeah, Psycho, for sure.

From that meticulously annotated Wikipedia entry:

(An item from 1977 comes before three items from 1976 to make the song scan.)

Menachem Begin becomes Prime Minister of Israel in 1977 and negotiates the Camp David Accords with Egypt's president in 1978.
Ronald Reagan was elected President of the United States in 1980, but he first attempted to run for the position in 1976.
Palestine: a United Nations resolution that calls for an independent Palestinian state and to end the Israeli occupation.
Terror on the airline: Numerous aircraft hijackings take place, specifically, the Palestinian hijack of Air France Flight 139 and the subsequent Operation Entebbe in Uganda.

Then why not switch the first two and make the line "Reagan, Begin, Palestine..."? Still would've worked.

I'm a sucker for Peter O'Toole as Lawrence, blowing up trains and playing at being a little god on earth. Psycho will probably win, though. It's become a cultural icon, which none of the others can quite claim.

Just read Ebert's Great Movies review of Kwai and relieved to see that even someone who is a much bigger fan of the film than I am agrees that the Holden scenes are weak. The film only really comes alive when Guinness and Hayakawa are on screen, preferably together.
