I stopped making unconditional commitments to bands after Magma turned out to be led by an actual fascist instead of some Laibach-style prankster. That said the band I probably have the strongest commitment to despite all of the crap they get is My Morning Jacket. I totally understand why some people have no time for them. At this point they're this unholy cross between a jam band and sub-Wilco indie landfill, on some levels probably even less defensible than Mumford and Sons. And every time they come out with a new record, I mentally prepare myself to let go, that either I've changed or they've changed and it's time for me to quit listening to them. And every time I wind up loving what they do, every time I wind up redoubling on my commitment.

So yeah, I'm gonna go with My Morning Jacket.

yeah, i was listening to jefferson airplane and having one of my - OMG SHE IS SO FRIGGIN' AMAZINGGGGGGGGG - moments and all i ever hear about her now is how crazy she is and people treat her like their dotty grandmother and i'm all fuck that she was a freedom fighter and way braver artistically then most people will ever be.

so, there you have it in a nutshell.

rolling stones: i am a pathetic hopeless case. i look at rolling stones message boards. i get emotionally wrapped up in arguments about whether or not they're a real band since mick taylor left. i have more than marginal interest in finding out which japanese cd version of "it's only rock'n'roll" has the slower "fingerprint file" and longer "time waits for no one." i hound ticketmaster endlessly when they come to town trying to conjure up those obstructed view seats in the lowest pricing tier. (they appear! it might take months of pounding away at the keyboard though.) have they not been at their peak for some 40 years? sure but they are deliquescing in a lovely and graceful manner. do they always play the same "warhorses"? yes, they're called rolling stones songs. it's all good. they rock like crazy. plus mick jagger is just cut from different cloth, entertainment-wise. it's all held together by duct tape, could disappear at any moment, and when it does a little spark will extinguish from my life i am sure.
