CDs don't have that required change dynamic and maybe they get frontloaded more than LP based collections did

Last time I saw them play it, they didn't play any kind of extended ending or anything like that. It felt a bit weird!

the covers of the last lot of albums i have downloaded are quite coincidentally entirely monochrome (gabor lazar & mark fell, byetone, sd laika, alva noto, voigt) although perhaps not so surprising giving the regnant aesthetics of that sort of music

I downloaded all three of those Xerrox albums last week. I'm mildly impressed that he planned out the artwork for his 5-album series more than a decade before the final volume is likely to come out (although it's still possible that he'll throw us a curveball and spell out XERRISCAPE or someshit)

I also downloaded a bunch of messy Scandinavian psych/electronic/freefolk albums (Tomutonttu, Kemialliset Ystävät, Tsembla) with appropriately garish tie-dyed color schemes. salvia is the most embarrassing muse.

this album only has 2 tracks, but the uploader managed to get the track titles mixed up. amazing.

(the album is Cecil Taylor's Dark to Themselves. 'Streams' is mistagged as 'Chorus of Seed' and 'Chorus of Seed' is mistagged as 'Streams'. I'm pretty sure it's a vinyl rip)

I've downloaded so many albums on slsk where track 1 is mistagged with track 6's title, track 3 is mistagged with track 1's title, and track 6 is tagged with track 3's title, etc. is this a Gracenote error, or did someone attempt to tag their music manually (and get it completely wrong)? not to be racist but Spanish/Portuguese-speaking slsk users seem to be the worst offenders w/r/t inaccurate metadata, and I tend to avoid anyone whose music folder is called 'Música'.

the last album by the band kevinn drumm is actually smaller when encoded by flac when compared to 320 mp3 - go figure!

― milord z (nakhchivan), Saturday, 8 November 2014 22:50 (10 months ago)

the new logan sama album is ~70 mins and over 500mb in flac which must be at the other extreme of compression ratios

Something still remains one of my most loved, and most played albums to be released so far this decade and now I'm suddenly finding myself in the position where I'm already beginning to feel like it's the end of the line for me and this band.

Deceptionista combines the relentless unknowability of the real-time internet with ADR's distinct compositional approach, seeking to accelerate detailed, high-definition visions of public intimacies into a form of 21st century psychedelia; which embraces the cognitive derangement of the senses that defines the habits of today's internet browsing constituency.

Far too many people are cynical and exhibit kneejerk, jaded opinions about the current state of music and believe that the music of their youth is the best music there could be. And I think that is indeed utter bullshit.

On the other hand, this attitude is understandable (if unfortunate). I think passion for new music is generally, for most people, concentrated in their early years, maybe up to 20-22 years old. I think my friend and I (he’s in his late 40s and I’m in my mid 50s) are in the minority. We actively seek out and listen to new music in many genres. Using the internet it’s not really that hard to find great new stuff. But I don’t think most people are passionate enough about expanding what they listen to. I think for most adults, music is functional, background, mood-setting stuff. You go with what you know.

Exploring new music takes an investment of time and energy. When you’re young, you have a lot of both. Later on, we have jobs and responsibilities and lots of other distractions from what once was super important—the latest cool music! And there’s the fossilization factor. Getting older can easily be simultaneous with getting set in your ways, no longer interested in new things to get excited about. Again, I can understand that.

But some of us can’t stop the urge to expand and explore and find new gems and classics, and bands that will blow us away all over again. Are we permanent adolescents? I don’t know, but I do know that the “problem” isn’t that there isn’t enough good new music, it’s that there is totally too much!! There is literally not even a small fraction of enough time available to listen to all the new/recent music worthy of attention. That’s the gist of my beef! ;)

PS – I love the Beatles and a lot of that old boomer stuff from my childhood and teen years. I’m a boomer. But can’t I have that AND everything else? This isn’t an either/or situation! I would mourn for Paul McCartney!
