why are fictional depictions of sexual assault so much more difficult to watch than depictions of murder

maybe cos they're less prevalent?

yeah was thinking theres desensitization at work but im open to other theories too

but only on rare occasions would we get angry enough to want to assault someone sexually, eg christmas with relatives

feel like murder in fiction is rarely really murder its more usually a stand in for domination / power, idk if thats an essential thing or just a convention or what

But yeah the episode was pretty dark and hopeless feeling.

Jaime and Bronn sneaking around the Dorne gardens was cartoonish. Having them immediately locate his daughter/niece made the already small set feel smaller and any tension was lost as well. Then, to top it all off we get the horrible everything of the sand snakes showing up at the same time:

i guess killing and murder and death are kind of cornerstones for drama. rape is not a plot device in the same way, if you go back to your shakespeare or whatever there's killing everywhere but rape tends to be deployed to characterise someone as a true villain, relative to murderers.

for what was painted as a suicidal mission it was sure going pretty smoothly, they just wandered in and had the bad fortune that the sand snakes were also there doing... whatever they were doing. bronn singing was a nice bit of fan service for we robson & jerome fans tho.

i agree, that was a stunningly dumb fight, poorly staged and occasionally nonsensical blocking and some clumsy editing in a desperate attempt to make up for it.

i think the problem is that the show is showing its seems more often this season than ever before. maybe this means they blew their budget on the second half of the season? i hope so!

I hardly think so. I was watching it last night and caught that sloppy shit.

We're mourning the inclusion of Xena: Warrior Princess meetings Ninja Turtles characters/acting/choreography invading our beloved and refreshingly gritty fantasy epic.

But I liked the Jorah/Tyrion scene. Made me miss old man Mormont. That dude was solid.

tbf it was not a great scene of action but i only really am thinking that upon rewatching, when the moment played for the first time the story situation was of greater import to me - which, for me, is the ultimate barometer for this sort of stuff

Well again, had I not read the books I would have no real understanding of who the hell the sand snakes are and why they just popped up at that moment. The development of Dorne as a land has been a lot of shorthand, very choppy.

that collection of girl ninjas are all pretty uninteresting and their last scene on the show was similarly badly blocked and played.

that i would agree with, the dorne part - like it's established who they are sort of, but in brief scenes one of which was very basil expositionish, as ppl pointed out

The whole Sand Snakes narrative is terribly acted and written, and a silly gif of awkward larping kind of sums the entire thing up.

Speaking of Dorne: in the opening credits the little snake climbing up the pole looks so corny and bad. Even worse than the Titan of Braavos.

alexander siddig (great brit charactor actor, what a surprise) has been effective in his brief scenes as doran, but they are really brief.

Dorne would even benefit from a nice shot of the city, right now it feels like the whole thing is being shot in the courtyard of a nursing home.

Sand Snakes seem like some toy company's attempt to introduce new action figures through the show

after the 2nd sand snakes scene i agree with crits of the acting, but the writing is literally no different than any other self serious character on the show, of which there are many

More Siddig would be a major help. Most of the Dorne chapters are just his musings anyhow, seems like there's a lot to pull from.
