Stannis is super dead, the touching father/daughter bonding this season is the giveaway

I still think Reek will do in Ramsay as the only possible way to get people to stop hating his fucking guts

Am I the only who misses Bran? I miss Bran. Bran was dope.

eternal lol at the fanart on game of thrones wikis

Dadjokke (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 1 June 2015 23:23 (eight years ago) link

i forget whether Dorne ppl are pro-Dany or anti-Dany

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 02:25 (eight years ago) link

The Mad King treated Elia Martell poorly so Dorne is probably not inclined to like her, but philosophically I think they're compatible.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 02:30 (eight years ago) link

The wall was built explicitly for white walkers--If humans lived north of it before the long night and bran the builder, they were not considered a threat on the order of the walkers. But as the walker threat dissipated and the number of wildlings grew (through migration mostly), the wall became more of a protection against the wildlings. The gift is largely unoccupied because wildlings raid it!

max, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 02:38 (eight years ago) link

ya, i'm pretty afraid Stannis is toast. or worse. possibly even his daughter.

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 02:39 (eight years ago) link

wait what did the Mad King do to her? She was his daughter-in-law iirc. Dead Lannister patriarch had one of the Clegane boys murder her and her babies.

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 02:55 (eight years ago) link

i hope stannis sacrifices his daughter to lord of light that wld be the best plot development since ned got his head chopped off

lag∞n, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 03:09 (eight years ago) link

wait what did the Mad King do to her?

jaime overheard the mad king violently raping her on the reg iirc

Clay, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 03:14 (eight years ago) link

that was the mad king's actual wife, rhaenys iirc, not elia - not that it's any less hideous

I had it wrong I guess!

The Martells themselves were enraged with the murder of Elia and her children. Oberyn wanted to continue the war and champion the cause of Viserys Targaryen, the only surviving Targaryen prince, but Doran Martell, who had succeeded his mother as ruler of Dorne, knew that they were not strong enough and made his peace.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 03:25 (eight years ago) link

yeah elia was aerys ii's wife

Clay, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 03:30 (eight years ago) link

wait no she was the daughter in law

hard to keep these people we've never actually seen straight sometimes u know

Clay, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 03:33 (eight years ago) link

anyways dorne folks mostly just despise the lannisters

Clay, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 03:35 (eight years ago) link

reasonable stance to be sure

keeping this shit straight is a goddamn nightmare even on a casual level

you guys are lucky they totes eliminated the kettleblacks and the family with the daughter who got raped and brain damaged during the kings landing riot

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 03:54 (eight years ago) link

it was interesting during the Dany/Tyrion chat than when he was listing the powerful families he did not mention the Martels, who would be the most sympathetic to her right to the throne.

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 03:55 (eight years ago) link

him saying there's a way out is p much telling her "uhhh youre fucked you should probably confess," but saying "the work continues" is qyburn-code for "your zombie guardian is almost ready"

Dude you have to please stop doing this in this thread, because even if you're joking you've already established you're an expert on the books or whatever and even winky half-spoilers or winky half-spoiler jokes are a drag

Your Ribs are My Ladder, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 08:23 (eight years ago) link

Tbf, the zombie guardian has been shown on the show. More than in the books, iirc.

Frederik B, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 09:34 (eight years ago) link

I wouldn't have considered that a spoiler until both of the last two posts.

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 09:38 (eight years ago) link

Everyone should bear in mind that at this point book readers are speculating roughly as much as TV only people.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 09:41 (eight years ago) link

in theory

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 09:43 (eight years ago) link

Also I don't think explaining something that is entirely inferrable from the context of what has been shown onscreen is a spoiler.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 09:44 (eight years ago) link

it's still possible things from the book could happen, presumably. anyway i am not annoyed, i just think i wouldn't have thought twice about sloth's post until it was highlighted.

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 09:44 (eight years ago) link

xpost i agree with you there - it was just like a normal observation about how he appeared, but not anymore!

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 09:45 (eight years ago) link

Also we're talking about a character who hasn't appeared in any other context other than the creation of a zombie Mountain, it was completely obvious that was what was happening in that scene.

Brilliant episode btw.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:00 (eight years ago) link

Yeah it was sick. The production values are just insanely high at this point.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:03 (eight years ago) link

I don't think explaining something that is entirely inferrable from the context of what has been shown onscreen is a spoiler.

I don't know, I don't feel like anything's entirely inferrable at this point, but either way Sloth has made it clear in several posts that he's read the books and has made a few hinty posts previously, so it jumps from "I wonder if my inference will play out the way I think it might" to "well I guess that's happening for sure"

I'm admittedly dim; I'll shut up if everyone's cool with it

Your Ribs are My Ladder, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:18 (eight years ago) link

It's a very tricky balance to get right in this very unique situation, and book readers should probably err on the side of caution... However, one can definitely be over-sensitive to spoilers, I do sometimes wonder why the extremely spoiler-phobic go on internet threads at all.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:41 (eight years ago) link

See any later Doctor Who thread for examples of what I'm talking about taken to absurdity.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:42 (eight years ago) link

The White Walker/wight children were A+ nightmare fuel. Cold that they killed the mother.

painfully alive in a drugged and dying culture (DavidM), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:42 (eight years ago) link

It's like if I had accidentally spoiled say the Red Wedding for myself by reading the internet I'd be a little miffed, but it wouldn't have ruined my life, I'd kind of have myself to blame, and I'm sure I still would have enjoyed watching the episode.

narcissistic xpost

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:44 (eight years ago) link

Given that half the internet is talking about it, it's not exactly unreasonable that the spoiler-phobic would gather in a place that specifically says "(NO SPOILERS PLEASE)", in fairness.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:52 (eight years ago) link

Ha, fair point.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 10:53 (eight years ago) link

NO SPOILERS threads have the same problem as Quiet Cars on trains--someone always thinks what they have to say is so important that rules be damned

if you've read all of the game of thrones books the appropriate behaviour is sheepish contrition, not banging on about it like you're a wise old sage

Dadjokke (Sgt. Biscuits), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 11:19 (eight years ago) link

apologies if ppl were ticked off by that - I thought it was v obvious based on stuff that'd already occurred solely in the show!

and at this point I am almost in the dark as ppl who just watch the show

trust me i have no desire to establish source text cred or ruin anything for anybody; I've kept most really inside baseball stuff to the spoiler thread and sometimes it slips my mind

It was nice to finally see at least one of the potentially world-changing threats mentioned almost every episode actually do something.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 11:59 (eight years ago) link

it was fine. ffs we know cersei gave him the mountain and there is a huge body on a slab occasionally moving shock scare comedy style and qyburn's done everything but lift it into the storm to be animated by lightning.

resulting post (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 12:20 (eight years ago) link

it's the fact we're discussing it that hints at a spoiler at all.

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 12:24 (eight years ago) link

sure, they could have put that stuff on the screen for no reason at all
