don't get me wrong though: i think getting indignant about those kind of plot inconsistencies is sorta pointless. like, there's a fucking dragon in this, it's okay if there's some hard-to-believe construction in the storyline.
but that applies to the whole STANNIS IS DEAD TO ME stuff too; dude has been burning people from jump and they telegraphed this coming for three episodes. ;

I think it's pretty lol that people warmed to Stannis after a couple of scenes of him not being a complete prig

i mean i will not discount the possibility of being totally wrong thinking there's a real reason & the show just flipping the script/allowing them to be the subject of ambushes for lazy writing reasons, but the show is generally well-plotted/thought out esp. re: world building and detail shit (if not always plot) so i figured there was an in-world reason. friend of in conversation also suggested that having their freedom (such as it is) for some time now could've made them a bit out of practice?

but of course could just be yadda-yaddaing to get to the next point on dany's map route. then again if it gets us out of meereen not the worst thing? lol

unsullied just need to get some swords instead of those sticks

maybe tyrion will invent guns

realize i just contradicted myself bc i did not proofread before clicking post - better phrasing: the story is well told and the world well built but the moment to moment gears of plot can sometimes jam. something like this could be an example of that and benioff/weiss are just like "ehhh let's just get through the next pages" when they come to minor but annoying snags

The Stannis thing is also hilarious; basically because dude was nice to his daughter, half the viewers forgot that he's a total Tywin/Roose-style bastard who is in it for the power.

The unsullied were a slave army working for some lame regional warlord. They're tough, but they're not legendary badasses.

it's to the show's credit that it can continue to shock + anger viewers. it's not really to the viewers' credit tho.

stannis and sheerin relaysh was the second time there was a moderately heartwarming exchange between a father and a scorned offspring, followed shortly thereafter by the father at least trying to kill them (tywin and tyrion the other iirc)

xp these guys were supposed to master the shield, the short sword and the three spears. Only one boy in four survive training. They go out and kill babies in front of their mothers and pop off nipples like pringles. They seem fairly legendary to me.

Yeah would be a lot less irritated by unsullied use/swordlessness if they hadn't gone so far out of their way to hype them up in that scene.

I thought this was a perfectly decent episode, though it felt like the last scene was episode 10 material. I think every season but 4 ended with dany and her dragons?

exactly - a fair amount of them are prob pit fighters who were out of work (may have said this weeks ago), although just bc the fighting pits are open doesn't mean they dont want to overthrow her for a lot of reasons

The bit where the harpies had Dany & co. surrounded and were hesitantly attacking one at a time really reminded me of this...

I found myself being concerned about the quality of Arya's cockles and clams which she seemed to cart around all day in the sun. One character in the brothel said they were "fresh", which I found hard to believe. Anyway, that brothel scene was not only ugh but didn't really go anywhere. I expected Arya to be drafted into service by the madam when that guy kept wanting someone younger. But no, she was shooed out and that was that.

i was a bit surprised to see dany's husband unceremoniously killed, i assumed his timid chump thing was a cover for some association with the rebels but nop there he is getting stabbed up without even a hint of resistance

Or maybe he was a rebel but got stabbed up cause they think he's annoying too

Also the way they built up Bronn's punishment over two scenes - and it turned out to be a punch in the nose?

seems like ppl are glossing over the pedo brothel scene bc of their outrage over the stannis daughter auto-da-fé, but if ever there was a time to complain about needless cruelty towards women in fiction that would seem to be it.

idk but am hoping that dorne is just over now, that cersei's kid comes home and jamie too (or they both die) and nobody ever speaks of dorne again

it was a defensible scene at first (yeah these dudes would prob go to a foreign brothel), then pointless/OTT bc it's like "well of course this person we established as a blindly loyal sadistic little shit has to ALSO be a pederast before arya can kill him"

that said, it does track w/ why he was so eager to be sadistic to sansa at joffrey's command back in season 2. it was ALWAYS meryn trant doing that, not any other kingsguard knights

but nah we didnt really need to see that and it was uncomfortable af

dorne sounded great when it was presented as a paradise of free-thinking hedonists, but maybe oberyn was the only fun one among them

a friend of mine tuned into GoT for the first time ever for this episode and was like "uh, no".

nothing like the penultimate episode of a serialized drama in its fifth season to find out if a tv show is for you

tbh, this show rarely registers as entertainment with me anymore.

I like to wait for shows to end and then watch them backward to see all the characters rise from the dead

except for the characters who actually rose from the dead... they will unrise back to living.

can someone explain without spoilers what Arya's doing and who the people coming off the boat were (Gatiss is Iron Bank guy but can't remember the others)?

Mace Tyrell of the lollipop guild was there to negotiate finances. Sent by Cersei and accompanied by Meryn fucking Trant.

The bigwig is Mace Tyrell and the other guy is the guy who helped kill Arya's sword-fighting teacher in season 1. I assume she wants to kill him or something.
