did i ever mention the annabel record here? it was delayed for 200000 years but it's awesome

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXudE_C17Ds

less good but still admirable is the new spraynard. they could stand to write a chorus

two weeks pass...

relistening to the last Pianos Become the Teeth record thanks to the deluxe edition - gorgeous album. completely one-note but it's a note that resonates atm. the new(?) bonus tracks are great.

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 23 July 2015 20:13 (eight years ago) link

oh yeah that's who i always confuse with the dear hunter

incidentally there's a new dear hunter record coming out this year

also apologies ahead of time to the uk dudes on this thread but i just discovered fightstar and they're the best band ever? they're putting out a new record in october

lol I'm listening to some new Dear Hunter tracks right now and these bands could not sound more different

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 23 July 2015 20:19 (eight years ago) link

yeah i have no idea why i confuse them

this is from last year, but have y'all fuckin heard of KITTYHAWK https://kittyhawkisaband.bandcamp.com/album/hello-again

are you sure you don't confuse Dear Hunter with Deerhunter?

welltris (crüt), Tuesday, 28 July 2015 19:33 (eight years ago) link

sure

Today in "stuff that may or may not qualify for this thread" I am digging the new Screaming Females, and anticipating the new Dead Sara.

yeah not sure dead sara belongs in here but i bet brad likes them or would? new record is good! i listen to 'something good' all the time, made my permanent workout playlist. the album closer is really good, so is 'lovesick'.

Spottie, Wednesday, 29 July 2015 22:35 (eight years ago) link

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 30 July 2015 00:04 (eight years ago) link

the new wonder years songs are their best ever i think

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SreZW6B4gi4

finally their music feels... flexible.

I've only heard "Cardinals" but it's great, high hopes for that one

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Friday, 31 July 2015 00:23 (eight years ago) link

the one that's premiering tomorrow, "cigarettes & saints," is fucking massive

that one's on Spotify now! sounds really good. I like their habit of reprises.

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Friday, 31 July 2015 12:51 (eight years ago) link

love this - sounds very deja entendu / dashboard which afaic is all i need

Mordy, Friday, 31 July 2015 19:50 (eight years ago) link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v23pvkRNQYg

, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 12:43 (eight years ago) link

oh, shorebirds are ex-latterman/ex-jawbreaker. latterman were a great band, i've never listened to shorebirds but that song is great

meanwhile the new beach slang song is wonderful. i know they don't exactly qualify for this thread but idk what other thread they'd work in

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 7 August 2015 15:08 (eight years ago) link

surprised that the new frank turner album is wonderful. he also doesn't belong in this thread but

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB4Avdlz3lk

if you have ever wanted to hear a pop-punk cover of The tragically Hip, there's one on this Flatliners rarities comp:

here's the new world is a beautiful place song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVg0lBtzgQQ

still boring. video's cool though

dogs on acid! they're good! album out in two weeks! https://soundcloud.com/jadetree/04-the-prick/s-tXzw7

gaye byers on acid vs dogs on acid.

I know which side of that minor celeb death match I would side with

mark e, Tuesday, 18 August 2015 18:12 (eight years ago) link

once again not reaaaalllly emo but emo-adjacent: Geoff Rickly's new band sounds great http://www.stereogum.com/1824769/no-devotion-permanent-sunlight/mp3s/

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 20 August 2015 15:31 (eight years ago) link

oh yeah no devotion is wonderful. can't wait for that record

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 20 August 2015 16:02 (eight years ago) link

ok these dudes from nola named donovan wolfington are about to put out a record and it's nuts http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/6670374/donovan-wolfington-how-treat-ones-you-love-premiere-tour

mostly pop-punk/pop-rock but also uh straight up hardcore and doom metal songs that kinda thread in seamlessly?

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 20 August 2015 20:23 (eight years ago) link

i gave that a listen last night and was half-paying attn and then all of a sudden shit went crazy

alpine static, Friday, 21 August 2015 01:15 (eight years ago) link

Another new Wonder Years tune, more trad emo than the others

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Friday, 21 August 2015 19:40 (eight years ago) link

finally caught up with beach slang and woooooooowwwwwww wow wow. love this shit.

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 25 August 2015 20:40 (eight years ago) link

^^ same

they're basically what i wish the Replacements sounded like. (never really could connect w/ the Mats)

alpine static, Tuesday, 25 August 2015 21:18 (eight years ago) link

the album is wonderful and i have no idea why they sent it to me so early

you are a lucky man sir

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 25 August 2015 21:27 (eight years ago) link

There is a new Modern Baseball song, you probably know what to expect. They're touring w/ Jeff Rosenstock and others later this year which, yes.

the Wonder Years album is quite pleasing, though I'm predictably not super into the song with the Letlive guy

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:34 (eight years ago) link

i haaaate letlive, no idea why they're so popular in the scene

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:35 (eight years ago) link

lol that is soooo refreshing to hear, they are basically unlistenable imo, and I really tried!

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:38 (eight years ago) link

i also love a lot of shitty metalcore and screamo and they're still a real hurdle
