great results. some grade-a killer songs in the list so far. hopefully we've seen the last of the Black album as i think its best three tracks have been represented (might have been more sympathetic to The Unforgiven back in the day as one of the better numbers, but it sits awkwardly with me now).

I was the person who voted it #1! Always loved that riff; the version from the Cliff 'Em All VHS tape... When the synchronized headbaning kicks in when the galloping riff and drums kick in... As a teenager it was just so fucking perfect.

also: the Fight Fire With Fire vid from '86 is nothing short of ferocious. love how they tear through it, no bullshit, just going about the job in the most intense way imaginable. would have loved to have seen them in that era.

Glad to see so much love for Fight Fire With Fire. But a bit gutted it's unlikely Leper Messiah will make it now. I thought it might be the one Puppets track to be overlooked, much as I love it.

to me, unforgiven II is not only much much better than the first, but my favorite song by the band…it's like JH had matured in 98 to a point in which he could feel what he's talking about, whereas on the black album, he still too insecure that, I dunno, the guys in Metal Church might laugh at his pussy ballads. I didn't vote, but this would have been #1 if I did.

"Junior Dad" is not my favorite Lulu song and it's one that i think benefits from the context of the whole album, but i voted for multiple tracks from it and gave "Junior Dad" a vote because i knew it had the best chance of placing.

You guys this was the first Metallica song I ever heard and so I always (rightly or WRONGLY) think of them as an environmental band, like Nuclear Assault or something.

Actually, I don't really know if that's totally wrong, but I have my suspicions. Anyway, I fucking love this song.

And I mean, I agree with that to an extent. There's a lot of room in our future for the development of geoengineering technologies, but it's such a weak dodge to not acknowledge that there's a crisis and instead lump it all in with "politics".

Would welcome further evidence that Metallica are indeed some kind of righteous eco-warriors.

Anyway, Blackened is obviously fantastic (as I expect to be able to say about every song in the top ten). They never before or since did anything with the foreboding intensity of the doomy middle eight. Still gives me shivers sometimes.

"Don't tread on me" (safe to say that's not gonna make it into the top ten), a pro-Gulf war tune, was probly where JH's authentic sympathies came to light, after standard anti-reagan, military etc. cant. he talked about it haltingly as such when I spoke to him…claimed it concerned war for independence and nothing else…uh huh, sure.
