trying to imagine david bowie wanting to read lines by someone who thinks he was the only good musical act from 1970-1976

this was so much worse than even I could have anticipated

there were a couple touches i appreciate (the Shane McGowan joke, the riff on tribute bands) and i like that they made the daughter a semi-interesting character and not just a foil for leary's lame antics but yeah, pretty stupid show.

this looked hella dumb from jump and I'm more of a Leary fan than many folks I know (I ride and die for a few seasons of rescue me and am like "eeehhhh, about that" re the rest)

will check it out but expecting little and racing for disappointment

the only real upside is that a few people might learn who Greg Dulli is

but really everyone would be 1000x better served by listening to Afghan Whigs records while reading Noel Gallagher interviews

Did the first episode address the fact that Denis Leary and John Corbett (especially Leary) are a little old to be playing dudes from an early '90s band?

plus they looked more like a New York Dolls-y glam band than early '90s in the commercials I saw.

one of the more semi-clever touches was that the photos of Johnny Rock in his prime were all stills from Leary's old MTV bits, which conjured the odd "oh yeah, this guy was on MTV in the early '90s" realization. Northern Exposure was out in the early 90s, it's plausible those guys would've broken through as musicians at the same age they got famous IRL as actors/comedians.
