Weird that "Coming Down" (from 2011's Only in Dreams) is getting a single release now. Decent enough b-side, though.

"Coming Down" was used on Orange is the New Black recently, not sure if that's why.

The name for that was a subject of much discussion. I originally had gone with "r-neg-b", but nobody ever knew what that meant, and the most common reaction turned out to be "I thought it was an encoding error". "Hipster r&b" and "pbr&b" are both kind of dismissive, and I try very hard to not use dismissive names for things somebody really does like. (Although I have failed a couple times.) "Alternative r&b" had some backing, but "alternative" is kind of a period term at this point. I liked "astral soul", but apparently nobody else did. So "indie r&b" it is, at least for now.

iirc r-neg-b came from this http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/the_music_club/features/2011/music_club_2011/best_music_2011_bon_iver_is_unlistenable_.html and caught on due to wikipedia editors looking for secondary sources

"indie r&B" is somewhat imperfect i suppose but there's a paucity of non-horrible options. I suppose labeling it "afrocentric" is oversimplifying the music and unnecessarily narrowing the label. i've thought "R&Bourgie" but never said it out loud or typed it until now.

The new album by my favorite whateverstep producer, because the sonics are reliably attached to songs, NERO - http://open.spotify.com/album/0UrFZ93iRqEnJwIuhzhlEyThe new album by my favorite exuberantly florid Hungarian folk-metal band, Dalriada - http://open.spotify.com/album/6xcz5gX6lIFuO8eRcWlR0kThe new Low album, which finds them discovering that studio equipment can be used to do other things than strictly amplifying terrifying near-silence - http://open.spotify.com/album/55uQXRIwm0WeJX8g7f5aCfAnd, to commemorate the not-released-yet-ness of the new CHVRCHES album, a new CHVRCHES song, which if you play it 12 times in a row is like a new CHVRCHES album - https://open.spotify.com/track/6tAPD6ENgfEY3DKfDaoz1S
Oh, the Alanis track is an unreleased outtake from the Jagged Little Pill sessions. That makes more sense.

it's kinda crazy how you take things for granted so quickly
but i've spent the last 2 work days listening to a playlist that is every Beethovan symphony performed by the London Symphony, all in chronological order
that's kinda fucking crazy to be able to dial up cultural knowledge like that

like, 100 people listen to Mirman's album and he gets paid for 54,000 tracks played?

Under current rules, a track only counts as played if the user plays at least :30 of it, so tracks shorter than that can't generate royalties on Spotify at all.
