Eastman was a big lad for a vegetarian superninja. All those terrible attempts at goat cheese I suppose.

I liked Glenn and was annoyed that they killed him but it would be terrible if they Bobby Ewinged him back in.

How long was he living there? Goats don't give milk indefinitely.

I thought the whole thing was pretty tedious. It was the Walking Dead's own Nikki and Paulo episode.

Horrible episode

I know when that Ott line zings (Spottie), Thursday, 5 November 2015 02:26 (eight years ago) link

skipping right over this one. will watch again when they address rick in the winnebago.

calstars, Thursday, 5 November 2015 02:36 (eight years ago) link

I've done OK avoiding this show, and I'm cool with my decision, but since I'd heard OK things about this episode, and knew that it was standalone, I decided to give it a shot. I made it maybe 15 minutes until I was all, man, fuck this overweight hippie sensei spouting droll TV witticisms. Show sucks. Per Nikki and Paulo, I heard it described (positively!) as a good "Lost" episode, which is nagl.

What's funny is the next thing I tried out was the James Brown movie, where this dude plays his dad!

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 November 2015 03:01 (eight years ago) link

imo this episode was as bad as all the middle episodes of season 2, maybe worse.

I know when that Ott line zings (Spottie), Thursday, 5 November 2015 03:30 (eight years ago) link

Spoiler: the next ep is even worse.

Me, during the first infirmary scene in the most recent episode: "Maybe she's there to introduce Merritt Weaver to the joys of lesbianism."

My wife: "'Introduce?'"

Me, several scenes later: "Touché!"

Resting Bushface (Phil D.), Wednesday, 11 November 2015 13:06 (eight years ago) link

such a terrible episode

rick, shouting: THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO BE VERY QUIET AND NOT MAKE ANY NOISE

someone should let the writers know that there is a middle ground between incoherent shouting and surly silences when it comes to character interaction

o yes and thanks for the maggie arc where she goes to search for glenn and then decides to turn back

lex pretend, Wednesday, 11 November 2015 13:41 (eight years ago) link

Still not watching this but still following it. So, my prediction: Glenn is not dead, but he will still meet the same terrible fate he met in the comic.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 11 November 2015 14:26 (eight years ago) link

I finally caught up to this in real time, and was thinking how essentially this show just follows Rick and his gang as they move through the country, find an outpost where other survivors have been living with some level of peace and security (the farm, the prison, woodbury, terminus, the church, alexandria) and proceed to totally fuck it up and ruin everything.

joygoat, Wednesday, 11 November 2015 20:13 (eight years ago) link

lol when i watched i was like "i think lex will appreciate that she doesn't go far in her wandering?" but then it sorta fucks it up by them washing his name off the memorial wall. if he isn't dead it'll be so dumb.

fatherhood and domesticity?

WHY can't they ever think up ways for people to die that don't involve complete stupidity??? no one who has survived this long would go so near corpses and no one would let them.

anyway it was nice to spend time with vaguely competent people, i guess, and sasha's thoughts on accountability are about as close as this show gets to insight or adequate dialogue.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 17 November 2015 19:28 (eight years ago) link

Never thought this show would go back to this level of time wasting. When they do this it seems like they are holding back but surely they're nowhere near where the comics are now?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 17 November 2015 19:33 (eight years ago) link

didn't think it was bad. have a feeling that stupid couple that took off with Daryl's bike and bow are gonna come back as corpses or otherwise

Nhex, Tuesday, 17 November 2015 19:46 (eight years ago) link

the mid-season finale might actually have been The Worst Walking Dead Episode Ever, what a flop

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 18:42 (eight years ago) link

how did they all nearly get outrun by the horde when they had so much time to get inside, why do so many of them fall over, why does everything seem like a contrivance to creak the plot along, why does the show's universe arrange itself around rick's dumb plans so that he's always proved right, why do all the conflicts resolve themselves in the most boring ways possible, why is the dialogue so bad, why did we need two deanna/michonne deathbed scenes, why did everything move so slowly, why do characters mysteriously disappear for episodes at a time, why does no one ever have an intelligent plan, why is everyone taking deanna's scribbled ALFALFA town plans so seriously when i thought it was going to be used as evidence that she'd lost it

why has glenn forced enid to come back, she's quite right that she's better off out of it

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 18:46 (eight years ago) link

i think its time for me to give it up. I would stick it out if there was an end in sight but...

Spottie, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 18:50 (eight years ago) link

yeah, pretty unsatisifying for a finale break episode. very annoyed how it "ended".
stupid Morgan though. GAWD

Nhex, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 18:54 (eight years ago) link

so much of the episode spent with the most irritating children ever, bring back mad lizzie

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 18:55 (eight years ago) link

morgan's had quite the fall from grace in half a season

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 18:55 (eight years ago) link

it's annoying because he's still a good actor, but Morgan's stance is kind of wildly unbelievable at this point

Nhex, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 18:57 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, I think this is reaching Lost (the tv show) levels of bad time management.

Funny how Morgan and Carol were so neatly knocked out for that hostage scene to progress.

Why all those deathbed scenes? I suspect certain actors get guarantees in their contracts that they'll get enough minutes of emotional acting opportunities. Beth actress gets to sing a certain number of times.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 19:22 (eight years ago) link

Tovuh is a major-enough legit actor, I guess

Nhex, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 19:34 (eight years ago) link

Sometimes when someone you know is dying you speak to them more than once.

the fiest p (onimo), Tuesday, 1 December 2015 23:33 (eight years ago) link

Sorry Deanna, we've already spoken. You need to die now.

As a TWD comic reader, I was waiting for that scene to play out. Relishing where the show deviates from the comic, as GRIM gets somewhat monotonous. There's grim that feels earned, and there's grim that feels like your brother grabbing your hand and asking "Why are you slapping yourself?"

Have they ever addressed island living? Next to the prison, seems like that'd be a defendable position. Plus allow a zombie/shark homage.

Island living seems to be where Fear the WD was aiming at its season end

as verbose and purple as a Peter Ustinov made of plums (James Morrison), Wednesday, 2 December 2015 20:35 (eight years ago) link

Don't they end up on an island at the end of Day of the Dead?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 20:39 (eight years ago) link

And the most recent one was on an island, too, wasn't it? Survival of the Dead? An island in, um, Delaware? Lotta good that did them. Anyway, Land of the Dead had zombies mobilizing and sneaking up underwater.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 20:42 (eight years ago) link

that was one of the cooler aspects of that one actually

Nhex, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 23:58 (eight years ago) link

World War Z talks about hordes walking on the bottom of the sea too. Seems nowhere's safe.
& wonder if there is a possibility of end in WD. Would seem difficult if death automatically leads to WD state unless intentionally intervened.
Heard there was a fan theory that this is an alien invasion, is that at all widespread?
At least WWZ did seem to have an end of sorts.

Stevolende, Thursday, 3 December 2015 00:45 (eight years ago) link

Heard there was a fan theory that this is an alien invasion, is that at all widespread?

It was a running joke by the writer of the comic that, when he reached issue #75, he would reveal it was an alien invasion. When he got to issue #75, there was a joke section included after the proper issue where Rick gets killed, and wakes up in an armoured suit alongside all the others who were killed, now fighting aliens

WWZ recognized that you are better off where it is cold than where it is warm.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 3 December 2015 02:20 (eight years ago) link

At least until you run out of food and the cannibalism starts iirc

joygoat, Thursday, 3 December 2015 04:47 (eight years ago) link

Kirkman has said he's written the end but could do 1,000 issues if demand is still there. I'm also pretty sure he said that if the show ends first it will be different from the one he has in mind for the comics as he wouldn't want to spoil it for the comic fans.

groovypanda, Friday, 4 December 2015 21:42 (eight years ago) link

four months pass...

I take it I'm the only person still watching? Should/could have quit with Glenn's Not Dead but hung on in. A few intense scenes aside the second half of S6 was shit. Negan character had a good one intro but it felt like a waste to leave it till the last ten minutes.
Fuck the "who died" cliffhanger.

Don't opine. Dead inside. (onimo), Monday, 4 April 2016 23:03 (eight years ago) link

I'm still watching on and off. There isn't much in it for me. I don't really feel any real payoff through all these cycles of struggles.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 5 April 2016 00:06 (eight years ago) link

Started blowing through these a week ago after they'd been piling up on the dvr and at one point thought "wait isn't there an ilx thread about this show that nobody's updated in ages?" I think I stopped expecting anything at all from it so I'm no longer disappointed. It's fine to watch for 45 minutes once a week or whatever.

I actually do kind of like that our group of protagonists found their niche and have become a crew of straight up proactive murderers.

joygoat, Tuesday, 5 April 2016 04:57 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, stopped watching. Not enough time for all the good TV, let alone a show that has so often been straight inexcusable, inexplicable garbage for several seasons. Which they then divide up into momentum killing half seasons.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 5 April 2016 12:01 (eight years ago) link

I am going to quit unless they announce an ending. can't do it any more. being saying that since s 2 though

Better Pau Gasol (Spottie), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 16:39 (eight years ago) link

Is this still popular enough that they aren't taking a risk by making these storylines so long? Because the creators said this new phase will be long.

I hope they aren't just working for that guy for a long time, although that situation is interesting, there needs to be more.
