I remember he turns up in Ball Four--I think he might be the guy who Bouton looks over at sympathetically in the clubhouse one day as he soaks his elbow in ice water during a doomed comeback attempt.

@BNightengaleDave Henderson, the gregarious man known as Hendu, died Sunday, one month after getting a kidney transplant. He will be tremendously missed.

The big moment starts at around 2h30m of the video in the previous post.

I toured Cuba with Mr Irvin and a couple dozen fans in 2004; he was 85, not in great health, but game and generous with his time. (He was visiting for the first time since playing on the island in the mid '40s.) A privilege to have met him and spent a little time with him.

Williams, first baseman-DH Ron Blomberg, and shortstop Gene Michael often made trips to the local branch of Burger King, downing multiple hamburgers at the price tag of 39 cents a burger. Williams ate hamburgers voraciously, in much the same way that “Wimpy” did in those old Popeye cartoons.
Both before and after games, Williams liked to cover his body in Vaseline. Williams felt that it was good for his skin.

Great player. Offensively, I'd almost say he was to Raines what Raines was to Henderson; defensively, obviously much more versatile than either.
