I've heard this a couple times in full and liked it, although it's maybe a little cheesy. I'm a cheesy guy. Soon to be released on Formation Records, so this just a 2 minute sample with watermarks all over it.

Re: Sicka - I'm put off by almost everything here, then the drop kicks in and it's all twisted in a sickly way which I can't resist - don't know how long patience would last though.

Re: Fracture, thought we had that already, dont think that's cheesy, is it? Maybe the vocal sample. I like those low, intricate basslines he uses, reminds me of the best Jungle-era stuff.

Posting this one not just because I love it, but also because it shows quite well the trend towards trance-style euphoria, rising chord sequences, heavenly vocal samples, etc., but with this melancholy undercurrent. Listening to mixes and radio shows in the last few years the shoutouts often seem to be along the lines of "thanks for this music, it helps alleviate my depression" and more and more of this music seems to have this in mind.

that LSB track is pretty but it also sounds like a cloud rap instrumental with an arbitrary, boring, static double-time beat. i would probably like it better half-time (or with breaks!).

The beat is my favourite part - just the sheer incongruity of it with that going on behind it, breaks would clutter it too much I feel.

So anyway, Roni Size has re-emerged with his first material in ages and afraid it's a bit of a letdown IMO, just sounds like what he was doing in the nineties, but a bit less inspired.

RS ranks as one of my all-time live letdowns, though, so I may be still bearing him a grudge 14 years later

In defense of Size and Krust there, that blurb does imply that they're reworking tracks that are at least six years old. I guess I'd be interested to see where they go after this EP comes out. I thought that track wasn't half bad, either, but then I never burned myself out on Roni Size.

Six years old isn't that long ago though. I dunno, guess I just got bored of his sound and was hoping he had something new to offer.

New Total Science EP 'Notes of Blue' is exactly what you would expect from the title. Pretty good though they seem to forget the melody when they bring the rhythmic danger and vice versa. My favourite track is probably this one:

Last thing I bought was Kabuki and Serum, "Heist Flick." The whole thing is about twice as long but I didn't want to link to Beatport or the V Recordings website, seemed kinda tacky I guess?

The b-side (if you can call it that on a digital release) is also pretty good. "Clash," by just Kabuki.

Plus I heard a really great bootleg remix of the Thievery Corporation's "Meu Destino" that sounded awesome. Mixing classic Brazilian tracks with dnb was a great idea and I'm glad somebody has had it.

Yeah, lots of promising stuff coming out of Brazil, especially Urban Dawn - there's a lot of buzz about his new LP, should post 'Messiah Complex' on here as it seems to be the tune of the moment

So here's Urbandawn's 'Messiah Complex' - it sounds like a bit like a liquid remix of 'Doomsnight' at first, but it does go some interesting places, sort of metallic and crunchy, and sounds like it's constantly falling over itself. I'm not 100% sold on it, there's a bit too much going on for me, but it does sound sort of fresh (though also quite retro) and I'm picking up new things every time I listen to it.

I'm listening to the new Syncopix album, "Benevolence," right now and I am digging it so far. "Who You Are" is an early standout, but it's not on YouTube or Soundcloud. It samples Liam Neeson in Taken, which is kind of fun.

^ Ah yes "Progressive Future Music". Terrible name (of it's time, rather like the Storm from the East compilation although I don't backlash that stuff as much as some e.g. Simon Reynolds) but some legendary tracks ("Cruising Detroit", "Danny's Song" and of course "The Western")

I recall once seeing an FBD Project 12" in Fopp, Glasgow on which the store assistant had written out FBD as "Future Beyond Dance". However I had read in the mid 90s rave fanzine Eternity that it actually stood for "Funded by Drugs" because Neil Trix has sold weed to buy his studio. Neil confirmed this was correct many years later when I enquired on Twitter.
