the new mya album is really nice!
especially

and she repurposes the very underrated "ponytail" on the outro <3

Reading in the Washington Post about women throwing their bras onstage at Bryson Tiller, at his recent show near DC. I don't get it

They like his music and want to have his baby?

i like this a lot. it's very bread-and-butter but this is radio-level songwriting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDNFIH-Gy2Q

ill admit it, I like Bryson tiller.. would've liked to go to the dc show to meet or @ least ogle bra-less women

i don't quite get why he's become this beacon of hate on twitter
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 February 2016 14:49 (eight years ago) link
his singles are fine!
he's only a beacon of hate in the sense that a few people have noticed how absurdly overrated he is by a lot of young R&B fans
― some dude, Wednesday, 24 February 2016 16:55 (eight years ago) link
also his tweets are corny and he's a hypebeast, there's an element of territorialism to the backlash
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 February 2016 18:47 (eight years ago) link
he sounds so much like drake! how can you not find that annoying
― Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 22:33 (eight years ago) link
am i wrong though about the territorialism
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 February 2016 22:59 (eight years ago) link
i can fetishize and cop my style from drake but i draw the line at an R&B singer doing that!
i mean, his singles are competent. and it's not a critical backlash as much as it is a self-styled tastemaker backlash, because bryson tiller threatens their very being.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 February 2016 23:01 (eight years ago) link
tiller was 16 when so far gone came out, a lot of music is gonna continue to sound like drake lol
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 February 2016 23:05 (eight years ago) link
that said his singles have been getting exponentially worse
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 February 2016 23:07 (eight years ago) link
The Tweet and SWV albums are out and almost certainly worth a try.
Playlist is updated for the month; give it a spin.

The Keke Palmer sounds like a hit in the way Carly Rae Jepsen songs do, and coming from an R&B context it might actually be one. I'm all for it.
― breastcrawl, Friday, 4 March 2016 22:56 (eight years ago) link
As for Tweet, it's amazing to me that she had that sound on Southern Hummingbird, and it sounded fresh back then and at any given point during the 14 (!) years that have passed since then, and it still sounds fantastic now.
― breastcrawl, Friday, 4 March 2016 23:02 (eight years ago) link

^new-ish Omarion
Damn this K Major tape is incredible. That guy's voice is so different, and he's got a little bit of Jeremih's inventiveness in his delivery

I like that Omarion track, too, b/c I irrationally like a lot of recent Omarion, but I'm tired of hearing Ghostface over soul music. Time to put Ghostface over trap or something just to see what happens

Anderson .Paak & Free Dadicals' SXSW set is streaming here, though you gotta click on each track of the set list. Starts with a couple of rap songs, but mainly R&B-funk-based. Especially like his singing while drumming, guitarist who knows his blues, Nile Rodgers and Santana, while keeping it concise, as does the bassist, who knows he ain't Jaco and doesn't wannnabe. Good spare-to-layered laptop too. More the sound than the words (or the rapping) for me so far, and occasionally bland anyway, but he and they got it:http://www.npr.org/event/music/470454098/anderson-paak-the-free-nationals-green-light-live-at-sxsw-2016
