How did you get into metal so late?

No idea! I just decided/realized one day I was curious about metal. Black metal in particular was always one of those things I was curious about, from a distance. I'd heard Emperor, and bits and pieces of other things, but never enough to really form an idea of what it was. Then, a few years back, I went through a big Black Sabbath phase, which lead me to checking out stuff like Electric Wizard. I really liked that, and then started checking out actual black metal like Darkthrone, which in turn led me to Bathory and Celtic Frost, as well as Mayhem, Gorgoroth and other 2nd wave Norwegian stuff. It wasn't really about learning a canon, it was just finding stuff I liked, and branching out slowly from there. And I like a challenge ;)

(of course, I was already familiar with stuff like Meshuggah, Orthrelm, Sunn O))) -- music that might end up at someone's door who was already looking for experimental rock music anyway)

Dominique how come you have not investigated more modern metal then?

cause there's only 24 hours in a day! I feel like I've traversed a huge territory already, in going from knowing zero, to not only knowing a lot about that era of underground metal, but starting to understand how it works (musically), what my preferences are, how different bands relate to each other, what they were listening to themselves, etc. Pretty immersive experience, so I imagine I will eventually get to a point where that connects to now (and if you look at the records I submitted, it often already does), but I'm certainly trying to rush anything. Smell the black roses, you know?
