wish i were in moscow suddenly.

anyway just popped in to say that the new moomin LP is very good on first listen.

davey, Friday, 11 March 2016 10:15 (eight years ago) link

I was feeling that as well, it was kind of slight but in the best possible way.

Matt DC, Friday, 11 March 2016 10:28 (eight years ago) link

I hadn't been taken with any of the Moomin records, but really liked one of the tracks on the last 12", Aquarama, I didn't know there was an LP to go along with it

saer, Friday, 11 March 2016 14:29 (eight years ago) link

Not familiar w/ this artist, but these tracks are sounding good.

That Mézigue track upthread is pretty cool, finally realized what disco track it samples:

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 13 March 2016 06:07 (eight years ago) link

great record, did you know it before? I hadnt actually heard it before seeing it mentioned on the Mézigue discogs page

saer, Sunday, 13 March 2016 06:30 (eight years ago) link

the gritty, the hard kicks, the phat basslines, the jazz chords, the lost days in Southport, the bacon baps and the lost chalets, its back

lets talk about The Garage, Shelter, Zanzibar, Blundell Park, Spotland, crazy memories, its back

^^^ love it

i;m thinking about thos Beans (Michael B), Sunday, 13 March 2016 13:10 (eight years ago) link

This is very really lovely, sounds like a locomotive floating through a desert at night but w/ some really efficient 808 handclaps thrown in

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 13 March 2016 14:43 (eight years ago) link

I heard a vibey piece of music the other night, which was particularly flimsy and i couldnt remember anything about it other than it was good and I wanted to buy a copy, but then I remembered it had a sampled snippet of speech in it, enough to google just now while I was on the bus

it said

"Everything connects, Charlie, whether you know it or not. You need to stop and think it through. All right"

this seems to be from a recent television programme, Boardwalk Empire, which means its a new (or relatively new) record. I dont know what it is though

saer, Sunday, 13 March 2016 15:46 (eight years ago) link

wait xp oops I didn't even post the link apparently, let's try this again

That Terrence Parker track is great!

schwantz, Monday, 14 March 2016 19:51 (eight years ago) link

really impressed with the production on 2 new tracks by Truce on the keysound label, deeptech/house sound

Truce - Be there
https://open.spotify.com/track/6YTmV7izTmnX2TVB3y2XzB

Truce - Uhh
https://open.spotify.com/track/4rlK2uJB6r3ilAvOSnXp4l

soundcloud: only preview snippets
https://soundcloud.com/djtruce/sets/be-there-uhh-ep-out-now-on

Boomkat Product Review:
Keysound chase a London deeptech/house sound with two lean, supple shufflers from Truce.

Be There rolls with ice cold bass motif and pin-sharp drum patter for the dancers; Uhh drops the temperature a few more degrees for a locked-in, head-high stride detailed with crisp rimshots and Gqom-esque grunting vocal stab.

djmartian, Monday, 14 March 2016 21:22 (eight years ago) link

Stereociti - Lost Land.
"Japanese deepcore" - the first track is particularly good. A superb vinyl pressing, too. (As is the Mr. Fingers EP.)

microhouse minimal track from Pedram based in Sheffield

the spooky hypnotic meandering mesmerizing stretched bassline makes this track

Playlist is updated through March, though still spotty as hell.
Where semi-appropriate, I've put in music from artists mentioned from '15-'16 as placeholders.

man i do not like where the beat sits on that track. it never has that moment where it comes into focus and 'sells' the downbeat. maybe that's the idea, to keep it uncomfortable and ambiguous the whole time, but idk.

There is (what sounds like to me) a beautiful tribute to Club Ice — Manhassett on the new Leon Vynehall album:

Bobbins or not, I'm now obsessed with The Blaze - "Virile". This makes a good companion piece: Portable - "I Reflect Thee". (The full-length 12" mix is better still, but not online.)

This is hitting my Saturday morning sweet spot: Karim Sahraoui - Horns Of Glory.

His other new release, which arrived this morning, is the Eternal Life EP Part 2, produced by Derrick May.

Some recent pleasures:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf35mYREKv8

Muslimgauze - Untitled 1985 (Victor Shan & Gerd Janson Mix)
I slightly prefer the Rave mix to the Morning mix but that's not on Youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZxxjD-BOS8

Portable - Reeva Numbers
few good Portable bits about just now, "I Reflect Thee" is 80s-Mr-Fingers techno balladry but this is just a real joy of a groove

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQiO016Azi0

Red Axes - Sun My Sweet Sun
cowbell heavy fake DJ Koze, I'm still not sure I get the hype around their other stuff quite as much but this is sweet

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5grVOIL6P8

Fit Siegel & Tim Love Lee ‎– Living Is Serious Business (Carl Craig Remix)
it's Carl Craig, doing Carl Craig

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZq1qsbCTuY

Kerrier District - Techno Disco (KiNK Remix)
ravey organ swells that play into my theory that KiNK can do no wrong

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 19 April 2016 09:02 (eight years ago) link

oh mike-t-diva has already posted the Red Axes, along with a lot of other great stuff in this thread

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 19 April 2016 09:04 (eight years ago) link

Indeed I have! Haven't heard any Portable other than "I Reflect Thee", which I also posted upthread.

I've been playing this a lot: Red Rack'em - Wonky Bassline Disco Banger. There's an intro which is nothing like the rest of the track, then the disco loop starts up, then in comes the titular wonky bassline (which makes the track), then some gorgeous strings (but only briefly), then it all gets a bit fractured towards the end. Maybe too disco for here, but the wonky bassline is the code-jammer.
