FALLOUT - Warp Tubes: Where to Find the Game

Fallout is over ten years old, but is still enough of a commodity that it has yet to really become abandonware. List places to find the game on this thread or if you're having problems getting any of the methods discussed here to work.

For US (and maybe UK?) PC users, Gametap is absolutely the way to go. Register here for a free account and then download the free Gametap player from the homepage. Fire up the player and then download Fallout from the free game list; it should take about ten minutes or so. Every time you want to play the game, Gametap will force feed you a thirty second ad for the Marines or some such nonsense; take that time to get a beer. The emulation seems to work great for me so far.

Mac users are going to have to look slightly harder but copies of the game are skittering around on the intarweb and are fairly easy to come by via a mix of Google-Fu, emulators and bittorrent.

Amazon and Ebay offer copies for both systems at absolutely ludicrous pricing for the mac and something like twenty bucks for PC if you want to go that route.

GOG.com is selling the game for Windows users for six bucks, but you'll need to have already registered for the public beta.

Any other suggestions or questions about obtaining the game?

So is the best way (for Mac) to get this to figure out how to get a torrent? I've never used torrents, and I don't intend to share anything of mine, so *can* I use a torrent?

It would be awesome if someone could just email me the game, but it's probably too big for that. But if not...

It's probably worth reiterating on this thread that ILX's host frowns on using the boards as a black market for trading pirated material, so we really need to respect that and not offer the game for download direct from here. If anyone wants to hit up Euler off-site about helping him, that's up to them.

Euler, I can't really walk you through all the details of how to use bittorrent and it will likely take you a half-week to figure out how to get it to work, but I daresay you'll find it to be a worthwhile addition to your internet capabilities. You could do worse than starting here.

- and if you don't want to share anything, that's not a problem with a number of enormously popular torrent locations, including a place where bandits of the open sea gather in an inlet or cove, wink wink.

If you want to go that way, that is.

torrents are really easy, euler

1. download utorrent (pc) or transmission/azureus (mac)
2. find a popular torrent site such as the pirate bay
3. download the torrent file you want from the popular torrent site
4. open the torrent in the programmed downloaded at step 1
5. start the torrent (press the green 'play' button)
6. ???????
7. profit

I thought TPB was pretty much the most famous site on the internet? we don't really need to talk about it in code do we?

if so, pls to mod my step 2 forks

ok thanks guys, sorry to bring up unsavory matters but you've clarified things a lot.

Honestly, I don't think starting with Pirate Bay is that helpful; it's not as if they hold your hand and show you how to use Azureus. Nonetheless, it's obviously a popular and useful resource once you get your client up and running.

There's this website that is the first hit that comes up when you google 'codez mac.' It is a forum. It may or may not have games. It may be worth checking out if you may or may not be looking for a copy of Fallout for the mac. It is probably pretty easy to use.

Good Old Games, it's a new digital distribution platform that hasn't rolled out regular access yet. They sell Fallout DRM-free for 6 bucks.

Got it, thanks! Grabbing a legit fallout from there as we speak, the original copy I acquired wasn't getting on well with Vista.
