i enjoyed it as well

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Sunday, 22 May 2016 23:45 (seven years ago) link

New Melanie De Biasio is amazing - Lynch noir meets In a Silent Way. Oh and for those who want to know more, she's a Belgian jazz singer. Previous album, No Deal, is well worth checking out. Was thinking of starting a thread.

calzino, Monday, 23 May 2016 13:16 (seven years ago) link

maybe it's just an effect of seeing chris abrahams on calzino's list, but there is a definite the necks-ishness to the melanie de biasio record on first listen

Seiho - Collapse

Enjoying this for now. Mostly ambient, often disjunctive, electronic music with jazzy bits. At times not far from Cornelius. I don't listen to too much music like this, so I don't think I have the right category slots or "sounds like artist x" to describe it.

Not so surprisingly the previous list is part of the radio show I'm running. Just uploaded this 'mid-year roundup' show on mixcloud (meaning I can take a summer break): https://www.mixcloud.com/Sterrenplaten/sterrenplaten-24-juni-2016-mid-year-roundup-2016

Thanks to Fat Cat's modern classical offshoot '130701' we had the chance to play a song from Ian William Craig's great 'Centres' and even an unreleased 2005 song of Set Fire To Flames, from the upcoming Eleven Into Fifteen compilation.

Also, show is in Dutch.

New Connections album is yet another great fake GBV (circa 90s) album. Better than anything Pollard can come up with these days.

Connections - Midnight Run

Mercury 422 830 398, Saturday, 23 July 2016 21:04 (seven years ago) link

I've missed that Grubbs had a new one out. What's it like?

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 23 July 2016 21:28 (seven years ago) link

five tracks, only one brief track with vocals.. the rest is sort of like Grubbs' circular/spidery/repeating riffing/arpeggios, with loose and nimble drumming (free jazz-like, breezy, secondary to the more pronounced guitar patterns) -- basically Grubbs' guitar and drums (Eli Keszler) with subtle (synthesizer, added afterwards) flourishes/augmentation. Drag City doesn't charge for shipping within the US (for CD), not bad.

I think if they were actually more like INXS, I'd find a reason to like them. But because they mostly sound like Duran Duran, I cannot.
