Heavy Stereo covering Genesis 'Calling All Stations' prod. by Pete Stanley & Paul Wiggs

PaulTMA, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:51 (eight years ago) link

Neu! crossed with M People

Odysseus, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:53 (eight years ago) link

It really does sound like The Bluetones, The Seahorses and Hurricane #1 though. It's not as if those bands all have really different styles. They mainly made music that sounded like a poor man's Stone Roses and that's exactly what All For One is.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:54 (eight years ago) link

KP where is that Shack album? postponed indefinitely it seems

Odysseus, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:57 (eight years ago) link

Didn't know there was anything being released?

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:59 (eight years ago) link

This was even worse than you'd made it out to be.

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:12 (eight years ago) link

Oh wow, good spot!

real orgone kid (NickB), Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:29 (eight years ago) link

The drums are just foul. Can't believe that's Reni.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:29 (eight years ago) link

It's an intro track, that's what it sounds like.

Mark G, Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:36 (eight years ago) link

Hey, come to think of it, are there any Reni backing vocals?

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:44 (eight years ago) link

yeah, the drums are fucking terrible, although when i listened to a few live youtubes earlier he sounded shitty there too :(

the lyrics belong in a donald trump ad tbh

has any guitarist descended more completely and disappointingly from relatively tasteful playing to tedious LEAD GUITAR bollocks as john squire?

(main prostitute from Game Of Thrones) (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 12 May 2016 22:05 (eight years ago) link

Should have broken into a "Mexico will pay" refrain instead of that shitty guitar noodling.xp

a goon shaped fule (onimo), Thursday, 12 May 2016 22:06 (eight years ago) link

Can someone please, Please, PLEASE round up all of these old '90s indie relics and put 'em in a fucking retirement home or something, where they can sit around and reminisce about how they once used to be "mad fer it" and talk about their shoes for the rest of their fucking lives!?

(Yes, I know The Stone Roses came out in '89, but still...)

But... could you imagine a formation in your lemonade? Ho! (Turrican), Thursday, 12 May 2016 22:12 (eight years ago) link

85

a goon shaped fule (onimo), Thursday, 12 May 2016 22:15 (eight years ago) link

Oh wait you meant the album

a goon shaped fule (onimo), Thursday, 12 May 2016 22:15 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, I meant the album... their mid '80s work doesn't feel like the same band to me.

But... could you imagine a formation in your lemonade? Ho! (Turrican), Thursday, 12 May 2016 23:18 (eight years ago) link

this is horrible. and what is this an advertisement for the Trump campaign?

Bee OK, Friday, 13 May 2016 01:51 (eight years ago) link

Trump pretty much owns the word 'wall' now

Poliopolice, Friday, 13 May 2016 01:53 (eight years ago) link

'Trump rally' was my first thought too. appalling music.

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Friday, 13 May 2016 02:05 (eight years ago) link

Lol yes the Roses are Trumplings of course, good work everybody excellent insights

Οὖτις, Friday, 13 May 2016 02:43 (eight years ago) link

don't let's be beastly to the gurners

I've heard this song one and a bit times and I seem to know it.

a goon shaped fule (onimo), Friday, 13 May 2016 07:51 (eight years ago) link

that's because it does pretty much the same thing all the way through. it really feels like half a song written as an unfinished demo. the drums are really really really bad.

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Friday, 13 May 2016 08:09 (eight years ago) link

yeah zappi already pointed that out. some sort of subconscious steal? maybe the fall will become the new the beatles

real orgone kid (NickB), Friday, 13 May 2016 08:40 (eight years ago) link

Ah yes - should've checked the thread! I think it's a very conscious steal ...

Steve Reich In The Afternoon (Against The 80s), Friday, 13 May 2016 08:41 (eight years ago) link

all for one, one for all
if we all join hands, we can rip off the fall

fookin shite doesn't even describe this.

People who think this is good; are they lying, deluded, or do they genuinely believe?

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Friday, 13 May 2016 09:17 (eight years ago) link

I'm going to have to listen to this aren't I?

Larry 'Leg' Smith (Tom D.), Friday, 13 May 2016 09:18 (eight years ago) link

it's worth listening to just to feel safely sure that it is shite. there is no confusion, it's almost satisfying. that was shite. one listen. then you're done.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 13 May 2016 09:26 (eight years ago) link

It did seem i'd have to buy the d/l to hear it, then someone said it's on Spotify, so that's a quid (or whatever) saved.

Mark G, Friday, 13 May 2016 09:37 (eight years ago) link

Sounds like a demo. It's an outrageous rip off of that Fall song, and the Fall song wasn't any good either. Also I kept being reminded of the band Tomorrow, but as I am going to make strenuous efforts never to hear it again, I cannot investigate the comparison further.

Larry 'Leg' Smith (Tom D.), Friday, 13 May 2016 09:38 (eight years ago) link

In my mother's Irish accent this wondrous event could be described as "a turd coming".

It's not THAT bad. It's just not that great either.

Poliopolice, Friday, 13 May 2016 14:12 (eight years ago) link

Turns out John did have *some* desire to desecrate that grave after all ...

Steve Reich In The Afternoon (Against The 80s), Friday, 13 May 2016 14:18 (eight years ago) link

also, the other thing I realized: the lyrics are bad, but when I think about them in context, as a commentary on the band itself and where they are in this moment in time, they make more sense-- especially as a lead single. still not good, mind you, but a bit more understandable.

Poliopolice, Friday, 13 May 2016 14:20 (eight years ago) link

Turns out John did have *some* desire to desecrate that grave after all ...

his first solo album was called "Time Changes Everything", so perhaps not a complete shock.

Poliopolice, Friday, 13 May 2016 14:21 (eight years ago) link

this ain't no Beady Eye

what a fuckin turd

yeah pretty much. it's so harmless I dunno why everyone is falling over themselves to destroy it.
