Thanks, sisi. I don't use soulseek but the aac tag helped me search for it. Will give this version a try. Is the apple music version as bad as the datpiff version or is there a difference?

after a few listens i'm starting to really like it, which is exactly the opposite reaction i've had from other hip hop records this year (except kendrick's)

One of the things i like the most about Chance is that he raps over juke beats and he's really good at it so i'm a bit disappointed cuz this has no juke beats.

Well Yachty kinda outshines him too and that feels so... weird.

Great album but good lord that first track sounds like complete shit, that low brass noise and the vocoders just crashing into everything else. Pretty sure I'm listening to the supposedly superior AAC version as well.

The rest is nearly uniformly fantastic.

Yeah the «aac» is slightly less abrasive but still sounds like shit, unfortunately. Why did Acid Rap and Surf both sound so much better than this?

Does anyone think this is better than Acid Rain and the best parts of Surf (i.e. Sunday Candy) though? It's mostly v blissful to me but I have a hard time ranking it over his previous work.

I'll take it over Acid Rap, but Sunday Candy is the best thing he's ever done.

I agree that it could use more juke beats, but it still has a juke sensibility in parts. Angels, for instance. The interplay between the horns and beats in the chorus sounds quite jukish to me. The end of Summer Friends, after Jeremiah comes in, the beats begin changing, and it almost hints at a juke jam before it ends. In other places, I think the rhythmic interplay from juke is influencing the way Chance rides the beat. The way parts of the songs seem to flow in different tempi.

Anyone know why it's off datpiff? It says that a complaint has been filed against it from some lawyer firm. Is it downloadable some place else without a subscription?

Streaming site exclusives are going to become very tiresome very quickly for a lot of people. No one's going to keep two or three subscriptions going and presumably you can't keep signing up for free trials. So everyone will just end up stealing the thing anyway, especially as there's unlikely to be a physical product in these instances.

yeah i've missed out on hearing a bunch of stuff now (including this chance). i have a spotify subscription & i've always said i'd be willing to pay significantly more than i do now for a "complete" streaming service (especially if it compensated artists in an improved way). but i really don't know if that extends to paying ~$10 a month to multiple shitty tech companies.

i pay roughly $30 a month for Spotify, Apple and Tidal because being able to virtually anything I want for the amount that used to buy me 3 CDs is pretty fucking cool and i pay way more for cable TV, which i care about way less.

Ugh I have considered that too but damn there reall has got to be a better way.

i'm not mad at the streaming wars because i feel like it'll have overall positive impacts on the music business that a Spotify monopoly wouldn't.

Or you'll do really well out of it if you're Kanye or Beyonce and everyone else will get the same shitty treatment.
