(a sloan-coached team will play tough, but...c'mon)

if okur is playing it won't look like last tuesday but i saw deron kinda lose faith the other day when he realized he needed to basically drive in on every play for them to be competitive (like last year, but back then it seemed like one of many options). they're tough but 48 minutes of scoring is hard to come by there.

im quite disappointed in the jazz this year - feel like even tho they did get healthy at the end of the year all those injuries killd their flow

ice cr?m, Thursday, 16 April 2009 18:38 (fifteen years ago) link

barkley otm the other night saying that this team(utah) doesn't possess their coaches personality.

Magic Jewson (carne asada), Thursday, 16 April 2009 18:40 (fifteen years ago) link

boozer wd srsly be pissing me off as a jazz fan tho, i've had to put up with LO for 5 years but that fool is ridiculous

attitude in spades (tremendoid), Thursday, 16 April 2009 18:42 (fifteen years ago) link

i kinda feel like the league is passing sloan by - like why do his teams still foul so much when everyone else has figured out its pretty much the worst thing u can do

ice cr?m, Thursday, 16 April 2009 18:42 (fifteen years ago) link

The Jazz should probably start from scratch, I think. Let Boozer go, trade Kirilenko, and start with a young core with a new owner, a great PG, and a dynamic new coach.

boozer doesnt play too much D but when hes healthy hes a beast in every other way - problem: never healthy - not so much his fault - and prince painting a purple stripe around his house is one of my fav news stories ever

if u paird cbooze w/a strong defensive center itd be a much better fit than his current scenario - also his name is the most hilarious imo - carlos boozer - its just perfect i dunno

ice cr?m, Thursday, 16 April 2009 18:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Boozer + Howard would be dynamite.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 16 April 2009 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm all for letting boozer go. millsap actually plays defense, rebounds at least as well, and could probably score 17-18 a game in a starting position. boozer is one of the worst pick and roll defenders in the league, he doesn't even pretend to make the effort most of the time. and ice cram is right about us needing a strong defensive center if we were to keep booz. okur doesn't play defense either and kirilenko has lost too much of his game to be worth what we're paying him. i also agree that now is the time for sloan to step down, he's stuck in the past. i'm sick of seeing him immediately pull dudes like cj miles and brewer out because they took an outside shot that sloan doesn't like

looking forward to future rationalizations for why beasley shoulda been picked over rose.

yeah i think he can be an average nba center but doubt he'll ever live up to #1 pick status. also needs to figure out how to stop fouling which is actually the reason simmons came up with the comp.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 16 April 2009 20:51 (fifteen years ago) link

guys generally foul less w/experience - hes starting in a deep whole tho def - i still think he could be an elite defender/rebounder and decent scorer - which is what i thought when he came into the league - injuries will have a lot to say abt that obv

if you were more familiar with the bulls offensive schemes, or lack thereof, and its personnel, you might not be so quick to dismiss Rose's assist abilities (he routinely throws up 'oops that go nowhere cause Noah is shocked that a)it's not ben gordon with the ball and therefore ballhandler might attempt a pass and b)they might attempt a pass to HIM.) Granted, I don't think he'll be as good as Paul or even Kidd in that dept, but that's not much of a knock. btw CP3 avg'd 16.1/7.8 in 39 mins his rookie year. D Rose: 16.8/6.3 in 37 mins.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 April 2009 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

the bigger edge I see Paul having over him his steals. D Rose is quick and is willing, but for whatever reason is a terrible defender. Doesn't even make up for not keeping guys in front of him with playing the passing lanes.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 April 2009 21:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i gotta imagine that being on the bulls doesn't help d rose's defensive intensity -- he prob never really had to try on D in HS or at memphis and he doesn't have a kg (like rondo) or a few years around the USA guys (like paul) or anything of that nature

starsky and what (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 April 2009 21:30 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah that's true. and vinny is def not known for his defensive-mindedness. but he does seem to try. just looks totally lost out there. sticks like glue to every screen. doesn't know when to go over/when to go under. when to give up the jumper/when to get up in someone's grill. i think he'll learn and get better. iirc correctly wade was a bit of a matador as a rook, too.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 April 2009 21:44 (fifteen years ago) link

another reason he doesn't get more assists is, rather than the main offense strategy being have him penetrate and kick out/throw a lob or be involved in a pick n roll, 80% of the time it consists of him throwing a pass to gordon with 15 seconds left on the shot clock, rose getting out of the way and standing in the corner, and bg forcing shit on his own.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 April 2009 21:48 (fifteen years ago) link

seriously if bg wasn't a huge ballhog AND in his contract year on top of that, rose would've had an even huge season stat wise.

u r straight up delusional abt this derick rose guy - is it because u want to make love to him

d rose has a shot at winning a title as his team's #1 option. beasley no way.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:04 (fifteen years ago) link

ehhh

starsky and what (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:07 (fifteen years ago) link

rose has to develop chris paul's jump shot before that's true

i agree with you wrt beasley tho - he's playing really well but teams are like tripling wade every time down the floor

starsky and what (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:08 (fifteen years ago) link

his shot has actually been looking really good lately, don't think that will be a problem. don't see him being a threat from 3, but a solid tony parker esque 18ft jumper, no prob.

"d rose has a shot at winning a title as his team's #1 option. beasley no way."

This is nonsense. As is the part about Rose being as good as Parker or Paul.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:20 (fifteen years ago) link

d rose has a shot at winning a title as his team's #1 option. beasley no way.

With Wade -- and perhaps soon another maximum-contract star (n.1) -- as his teammate, Beasley's unlikely to be the No. 1 option (at least with the Heat). Plus, sure he could.

Which part?

Alex in SF, Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:23 (fifteen years ago) link

parker's 2nd year (disregarding rookie year, didn't avg over 30 mins. dude has never avg'd 35 mins a game, which is surprising): 15.5/5.3. This year is the only year Parker has avg'd more assists than Rose did this year.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:23 (fifteen years ago) link

notice how i'm keeping paul out of this cause i think he'll wind up being top3 pg all time.

I think Chicago has very little shot of winning a championship anytime soon.

If they do win a championship it will be because Rose is surrounded by players better than he is.

I think if Beasely wins a championship (which is also unlikely anytime soon) he might (but probably won't as long as Wade is around) be the best player on his team (20/10 dudes are pretty good).

I think it extremely unlikely that Rose will be as good a player as Paul. I should clarify that I don't think he will be as good as Parker is when Parker plays his best ball.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:27 (fifteen years ago) link

I think if Beasely wins a championship (which is also unlikely anytime soon)

Really? I mean, if the Heat (a) re-sign Wade and, say (b) add C. Bosh, I'd give them a pretty good chance. They'd be young, and very -- very -- good.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Fair enough. We shall see. I do think he'd need two strong options with him, 1A and 1B.
You can't see Rose in 7-8 years avging Parker's current numbers?

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I think at least one of those things is not likely to happen though and I also think that Lebron is also young and very -- very -- better.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, but the thing I keep hearing about LJ is that he doesn't want to surround himself with a co-No. 1 type player (otherwise, he and Wade could be teammates, in Miami or, say, NY). Wade, OTOH, is very willing to have someone like LJ or Bosh.

Can't predict, obv., but I think there's a pretty good chance of both those things happening. Most of what I read has Wade happy here and likely to re-sign (that may have changed lately; I haven't kept up). And Miami has the space for a maximum contract. I read about Bosh a lot down here as a very possible acquisition.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 16 April 2009 22:33 (fifteen years ago) link

(And I know there's noone equal to LJ now; I meant "co-No. 1" 'cause it's easy shorthand).
