I know what the ending is gonna be

Dany reaches Westeros, teams up w/Jon, Walkers are defeated. Dany realizes that she doesn't want to rule and the monarchy is dissolved, sowing the seeds of

of a democratic style of gov't.

CUT TO:

2000 years in the future. Kings Landing is a sci-fi megatropolis with flying cars and tall skyscrapers. Citizens ride hover boards and walk their pet dire wolves and miniature dragons on leashes down the street. Giant holographic billboards advertise over-the-counter grayscale medications and vacation cruises in the Summer Isles.

Two figures stand out: Littlefinger and Varys, now cyborgs, walking together and dryly musing on how dull things have become over the centuries. Suddenly a spaceship comes out of the sky and hovers over the Red Keep. Everyone waits with baited breath as the president of Westeros, Tyrion Jon Lannistark III, comes to greet the visitors. The doors to the ship open and out come five humanoids cloaked in mysterious black garments and helmets. The apparent leader walks up
to the president. "Greetings! My name is..." He pulls off his helmet. "...Benjen Stark. These are my companions Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello and Raphael. We have come to make Sonic the Hedgehog pregnant with the help of Harry Potter. Hail Hydra!"

Dany accepting that reclaiming the throne is not her actual destiny, but instead it is teaming up with Jon to fight the white walkers.

could she not have both?

it'll prob lean more toward the latter tho

just caught up with the show and (most of) the thread and hooooollly bejesus there are a lot of nits being picked in a manner that resembles the worst imagination of network/studio execs giving notes and wondering who'll save the cat

also a lot of just lampooning of such nitpicking and i applaud the noble efforts of all involved

if young slothrop don't trust ya i'm gon' rhyme ya (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 29 May 2016 18:34 (seven years ago) link

i like the idea of the white walkers as a virus meant to cleanse the earth of humanity - a bioweapon that mutated out of control. not the most complex metaphor, obv, but a good one, and in keeping with the show's central idea of ultimately little factions with their ultimately little struggles ignoring the wight-elephant in the room that'll kill everything

if young slothrop don't trust ya i'm gon' rhyme ya (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 29 May 2016 18:44 (seven years ago) link

I did wonder if the lampooning would continue over into the next episodes and everybody would be confused

I hope somebody does a frame-by-frame of the Brantage sequences in this one.

Gilly cleans up nice. Loved Sam waddling out of the bedroom, then barging back in and deciding to hustle off with the family sword. You go, Tarly.

Totally called Benjen Coldhands in this thread. Also didn't someone call the Margaery / Tommen conversion?

This week's prediction for next week: Cleganebowl cliffhanger.

Question: how are they going to make it plausible when Arya drops the waif? How is that supposed to work?

El Tomboto, Monday, 30 May 2016 02:21 (seven years ago) link

Why wouldn't she have a chance?

Becoming clearer that Dany might become a villain.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 30 May 2016 02:23 (seven years ago) link

With all the emphasis on undead/resurrected characters this season and with the Freys back in the mix, are they possibly setting up Lady Stoneheart?

Star Wars ate shiitake (latebloomer), Monday, 30 May 2016 02:34 (seven years ago) link

they did mention the Bw/oB fucking with the Freys' logistics

El Tomboto, Monday, 30 May 2016 02:45 (seven years ago) link

Why wouldn't she have a chance?

The waif is a better fighter and has all the tools of the house of B&W at her disposal. Arya has Needle and, like, a candle.

This was Emilia Clarke's best bit of acting so far.

Little Sam is a good baby actor!

Dan I., Monday, 30 May 2016 04:50 (seven years ago) link

This felt like the nadir: loads of ill considered melodrama that needs another scripting pass, the reintroduction of characters no one missed, roulette wheel storytelling and swapped allegiances executed aimlessly and without obvious meaning. Gonna sign off on this show and binge through end of year to see if it picks up and for cultural touchstones but it's been a season of ashes and a deus ex machina in every plot. I doubt it's gonna hard turn back to strong storytelling in the last few lengths.

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Monday, 30 May 2016 06:20 (seven years ago) link

lol I gave up last ep but this one was fine. benjen wasn't quite ex machina - as an instrument of the raven he was presumably called for right?

low point for me was poor Diana Rigg being forced to explain "in this scene the high sparrow is winning, do you see?" that kinda shit never would have happened in seasons 1-3...

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Monday, 30 May 2016 06:31 (seven years ago) link

I think Margaery is pretending but I do think it's weird that Tommen's family can't slap him in the back of the head about this.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 30 May 2016 09:33 (seven years ago) link

are you joking? the "rousing speech" and the extras acting like cavemen was dire, i was wondering how many takes they did before going with that one. she just shouted stuff at a growing pitch.

Benjen must have some sweet crafting stations at his base for making custom chain weapons specially designed to fuck with wights. And where did he get the horse? Is it undead too?

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 30 May 2016 12:22 (seven years ago) link

v sweet that despite all of the hardships they've been though nothing can dim jaime and cersei's love

Blackfish is Clive Russell, he has a Scottish accent and he managed to shoot the flaming arrow onto the boatgrave that was floating down the river. He escaped the red wedding.

I didn't know that the groom was prisoner. I thought they killed him too.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 30 May 2016 13:31 (seven years ago) link

i vaguely remember that, though not well enough for the big reveal to not be a big reveal of some guy i didn't recognise. would have been better if they'd had him played by sean bean imo

Benjen or Blackfish?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 30 May 2016 13:42 (seven years ago) link

it wouldn't make sense to have sean bean playing two different roles in the same episode
was impressed by how different he looked without the wig

El Tomboto, Monday, 30 May 2016 13:45 (seven years ago) link

so anyway did I read Arya's implicit decision-making correctly? The actress asks her "Have you always liked pretending to be other people?" and then she exits with an excuse about her father, then offscreen she apparently comes to the conclusion that the answer is nope, just in time to return and blow up the spot.

El Tomboto, Monday, 30 May 2016 13:52 (seven years ago) link

yeah he didn't look like sean bean at all. incredible acting.
