"filler" is another problematic one.. i know what you mean, stuff like "that's enough for me" is underdeveloped and 'tossed off'-sounding. it's still better than frickin "don't stop". incidentally, christine's songs on tusk are much greater than christine's songs on rumours ("you make loving fun" excepted, of course). all imo, of course. signed, self-important arbiter of artistic quality

Mirage is now the underrated album of the Buckingham era, though it is not as strong as Tusk.
I agree that McVie's songs are Tusk's secret weapon - each one is a classic.

with our powers combined this summer, Tim, we'll change this state of affairs.

i saw this in a record store last week: http://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/8342
Tusk's stature has really risen even in the last three years. Not a forgotten album at all anymore. I feel like it's about as well known as Rumours at this point. No filler on it. The underdeveloped experiments and the band's ability to stretch out are what make it great.
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 00:23 (seven years ago) link
Three years?! More like twelve at least. Check out the number of ILM threads.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 31 May 2016 00:30 (seven years ago) link
You're right. I feel like we've reached peak Tusk though.
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 00:49 (seven years ago) link
'Honey Hi' is shite, though - nowhere near the level of McVie's songs on Rumours, definitely not a classic and the very definition of filler. So there's three theories debunked right off the bat.

this is the most mind-bendingly WTF poll I've encountered here. these results makes more sense read from bottom to top than top to bottom for me.

I'm not fond of "Honey Hi" either *raises chin defiantly*

Do you like Haim's rip off tho Alf?

yes!

"Honey Hi" sounds like waking up refreshed and in love with somebody
Love the Haim ripoff too, especially the "I'm not afraid no more" part

Well, if you truly believe that it's a better composition/song than 'Don't Stop', 'Songbird' or even 'Oh Daddy' (which is my least favourite song on Rumours by some considerable distance) then, y'know, you're entitled to think that, as utterly batshit as that stance is. Nobody, absolutely nobody sees a copy of Tusk and thinks "fuck me! I just have to listen to 'Honey Hi'"! 'Sara', undoubtedly. 'Walk A Thin Line', 'That's All For Everyone' ... yeah, I could see it. 'Honey Hi'? No fucking way. Inessential, airy fluff at best.
― Turrican, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 01:29 (seven years ago) link
0 votes for 'Think About Me' ... what's that all about, then? It's McVie's second best song on the record after 'Over and Over'
― Turrican, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 01:33 (seven years ago) link
"Airy fluff", yes - done perfectly.

McVie's tracks on Tango In The Night, though, are mostly awesome. Trying to imagine that record without 'Little Lies' and 'Everywhere' is just impossible.
― Turrican, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 01:52 (seven years ago) link
As for underrated Mac albums, then Bare Trees would be my pick. I've always thought that one deserves more attention than it gets.

THIS. How the hell did "Think About Me," "Not That Funny," and "Save Me A Place" for chrissakes get ZERO VOTES??!!
Also, "Sara" is great but "Storms" is superior in every way
ILM u mad
― Wimmels, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 02:06 (seven years ago) link
Also this is a front-loaded album if ever there was one. I pretty much tune out after "Sisters," though I usually skip ahead and jam "Walk A Thin Line," which is beautiful
― Wimmels, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 02:07 (seven years ago) link
the idea that any McVie track on Tusk is worse than "Oh Daddy" hurts my brain
― Western® with Bacon Flavor, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 02:21 (seven years ago) link
Fuck, I meant Walk a Thin Line, which did fine! Sorry...
― Iago Galdston, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 02:26 (seven years ago) link
thinking about these songs in this way misses the point of both I think. "storms" is a gorgeous, sad ballad. "sara" is a miraculous structure

"Honey Hi" rules. Great circular chord changes. Wonderful rocking chair of a song

speaking of mellow, "Over and Over" is a shot of pure uncut heroin str8 into the mainline. How is this a perennial front runner in "best album opener" discussions, but places in the middle of the pack here?

worst poll
― Wimmels, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 16:28 (seven years ago) link
yeah i mean 'Tusk' is easily the worst song on the album
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 16:29 (seven years ago) link

― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 31 May 2016 16:47 (seven years ago) link
'Tusk' is great and you're wrong. Although OTM about 'Honey Hi' being "rocking chair" music, just not in the way that you intended.
― Turrican, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 17:45 (seven years ago) link
'Tusk' is great but it's my least favorite song on the record. Maybe it's just overexposure. And honestly Lindsey bugs me on that one.
