And the sleeve is fucking amazing, obviously.

Yeah that's a crazy eclectic compilation. Wonder what version of "Drinkin' Wine" that is, maybe from The Session? I didn't realize that was ever a single. Voting for that one.

"Love Train," no question.

^ Yep. "Yes We Can Can" is a longtime favorite also.

I remember that tidbit about Ian Thomas coming up in another thread here! Had no idea. It's a pretty good fake Neil Young song.
The R&B featured on this comp is just off the charts. 'Yes We Can Can' is probably my favorite, but all of the rest are amazing. 'Funky Worm' has to be one of the weirdest singles ever.
I don't know that these particular tracks are precisely representative of my belief that 1973 or 1974 might be the high water mark of popular music but I'm sure they helped to inform that belief.

Is Deodato's "Also Sprach Zarathustra" the one that appeared in Being There? Cause if so, yeeeeuuuuccck!

Yes it is, and that's exactly what I think of every time I hear it.

Not exactly sure I'd make that claim, but the top 40 radio of my youth, which made room for Brownsville Station, Ohio Players and Jim Stafford, was indeed an amazing era. Happy to have been a kid during it.

lol'd so hard I woke my wife on the other end of the house.
I hate to be boring and vote for "Love Train," but really, how could you not? It overshadows five or six nostalgia votes (Jim Stafford, Johnny Nash, Clint Holmes, Dr Hook, Lobo). My parents had this when I was a child but it was left at our summer cabin so I could only listen to it for two or three months of the year.
