How come the dothraki werent vomiting and puking while sailing the poisoned waters

, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:04 (seven years ago) link

If the sea is so narrow why does everybody respect euron. He sailed a narrow ass seA wasnt wide at all

, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:05 (seven years ago) link

varys back and forth from mereen is a bit teleporty, but braavos to westeros in a week or so aint a thing

jason waterfalls (gbx), Monday, 27 June 2016 03:05 (seven years ago) link

nah I disagree. Braavos to The Twins is a short punt compared to Meereen to Dorne and then back again. I can get with Varys having a hotline on the Millennium Falcon of the GoTverse though

dothraki puking is for first ep next season imo. this show though they're just hauling rope around deck because that's the only job they're checked out on

I like how the whole internet was like SANSA EXPLAINS HERSELF TO JON, FINALLY and it was some ABC after school special bullshit

, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:08 (seven years ago) link

Btw did the mountain just torture and kill the nun or did he make her into a zombie. It was unclear 2 me

, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:09 (seven years ago) link

Also the shot of tommen surveying the burning sept, leaving the frame, then coming back and jumping was a total Wes Anderson flourish

, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:11 (seven years ago) link

varys being in the final shot seems like a "well we shot it already who cares" continuity error --- like, it doesn't matter at all, plot-wise. he's either in dorne when they arrive, or he's on the boat when they get there. it was just a way to have the squad framed up in a dramatic way

arya blipping over in record time would've been an issue, except that it actually seems plausible and nbd

maybe we should ask frederik

jason waterfalls (gbx), Monday, 27 June 2016 03:12 (seven years ago) link

don't think the mountain has zombifying powers, p sure he was just torturing

jason waterfalls (gbx), Monday, 27 June 2016 03:13 (seven years ago) link

dothraki puking is for first ep next season imo.

willing to bet that a dothraki puking is how we hard cut to dany's progress across the sea

this was a big "thin the heard ep" and i was into it. am hoping maybe the boat w the sand snakes on it capsizes and they die at sea

geometry-stabilized craft (art), Monday, 27 June 2016 03:23 (seven years ago) link

I liked the septa bride of frankenstein schtick. how u like me now lol?

the mountain taking his helmet off was the first time in the ep that I actually reacted out loud

El Tomboto, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:25 (seven years ago) link

It was kinda silly leading the sparrow down into the cellar n stabbing him in the kidney, so transparently done for the excuse of having a narrative pov down there for when the baelfyre explodes

, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:26 (seven years ago) link

also do they even have pipe organs and pianos in Westeros

El Tomboto, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:30 (seven years ago) link

As for varys teleporting- we are supposed to keep in mind that these scenes aren't all necessarily happening all within the same timeframe. We didn't just see "a few days" of events. Some scenes may have taken place a month after the scenes prior.

Evan, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:31 (seven years ago) link

Margery, tommen, lorris, cousin cersei had sex with that time, mace Tyrrell, old man + untold other freys, sparrow and basically that whole religion plus a city block

geometry-stabilized craft (art), Monday, 27 June 2016 03:33 (seven years ago) link

In the books the reason Varys moves between continents so fast is because he is a really good swimmer.

Rob Boss (latebloomer), Monday, 27 June 2016 03:35 (seven years ago) link

It wasn't just "a sparrow" it was lancel lannister. Having him be the one to be our pov down there was a fitting exit for him. And the mountain can't turn people into zombies...

Evan, Monday, 27 June 2016 03:35 (seven years ago) link

Cersei during this episode:

and she had like one speaking scene, a monologue about taking pleasure, even though she was 100% business the whole time

loved Rigg as audience surrogate telling the Snakes to fuck off

Anybody else get a very Terry Gilliam-esque vibe from a lot of these scenes? Obviously the one when Sam applies in person for Maester University, but others too

That's all because of Pryce isn't it

no, not really, he's barely there

btw when Oleanna met with Ellaria & the Sand Snakes part of my brain immediately cued the "Boggis, Bunce & Bean" song from Fantastic Mr Fox
Oleanna Tyrell totally needs a cigarette holder

So if the Martel, Tyrell, half of Greyjoy are now under the banner of the Targaryen, and that the Riverlands are pretty much lordless, it seems to me that only Cersei is going to oppose the arrival of Dany? Also, Jamie having a little discussion about honor right after Cersei did make things a little predictable.

I should not had been surprised by arya reveal but I completely was

Neil Patrick Harris?

Evan, Monday, 27 June 2016 04:57 (seven years ago) link

How do you guys keep track of everyone's name? I've been watching the show religiously and I have no idea who any of you are talking about?

JacobSanders, Monday, 27 June 2016 05:02 (seven years ago) link

Which names do you not recognize in particular?

Evan, Monday, 27 June 2016 05:12 (seven years ago) link

Martel, Greyjoy, Dany, Jamie, Oleanna, Ellaria, Margery, Tommen, Lorris, Arya. Btw first this is the first time I've stopped by this thread.

Seriously. Tyrell was the only alliance the Lannister army had. So what, it's now the captured Tully, leaderless Frey & Lannister armies vs. Dany's giant army? Cersei therefore has no actual power so I'm not anticipating any challenge for Dany on that front. I wonder how they'll fabricate one somehow.

Also, why did they lure Pycelle away to get stabbed by children ("little birds")? Would he not have attended the trial and gotten blow up with the rest of them?

Evan, Monday, 27 June 2016 05:19 (seven years ago) link

You've been watching the show religiously and you don't know who Jaime, Dany, Tommen, Margery or Arya are? I just can't figure out how this would be possible...

Evan, Monday, 27 June 2016 05:21 (seven years ago) link

I'm sure I do, but seeing the names spelled out just seemed funny to me, like I felt lost and couldn't keep track of what name connects to which person.

JacobSanders, Monday, 27 June 2016 05:33 (seven years ago) link

Brienne and Pod did fuck all for another season. Got sent to Riverrun and did nothing. Bring on sword-or-noose already.

cosign "loved Rigg as audience surrogate telling the Snakes to fuck off"

btw Cersei was not in the line of succession at all. Tommen had no close heirs that were known about.

Dany sailing to Westeros means we're into the final third of the story, at least.

Cersei was the queen previously

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 27 June 2016 06:03 (seven years ago) link

in season 3 Bran told the story of "the rat cook"

The Rat Cook, a legendary figure who allegedly lived centuries ago, who killed the son of a King while they were guests at the Nightfort. He then baked the flesh of the King's son into a meat pie, and served it back to his own father, who unwittingly enjoyed it so much that he asked for a second piece. The gods were not offended by the murder (as a man has a right to vengeance), nor even by the cooking of the son into a pie, but for violating the protection of guest right, as the laws of hospitality are sacred above all others.

nomar, Monday, 27 June 2016 06:43 (seven years ago) link

cersei taking out half a dozen key supporting characters in one fell swoop was splendid, plus bonus pycelle murder, plus bonus tommen suicide. damn, good job cersei.

nomar, Monday, 27 June 2016 06:46 (seven years ago) link

also i just read this, i guess i'd missed that there were tyrell and martell ships in the fleet along w/the others at the end

that's not why ... it was covered a week or so ago ... she's actually some 3rd cousin twice removed from the Baratheon family, and the, lol, next living descendant.

sarahell, Monday, 27 June 2016 06:57 (seven years ago) link

this one? http://mashable.com/2016/05/03/game-thrones-heir

That article assumes they switched over to Baratheon lineage to the throne. Robert was in the throne because he had Targaryen blood, and was the next in line after discounting the Mad King's descendants.

This seems to be the succession order in the books: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/topic/110788-line-of-succession-to-the-iron-throne/&do=findComment&comment=5826193

"Frey pies" was likely inspired by a bit in Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus where a mother eats pies secretly made of her children. That bit also inspired a great South Park episode.

Thrilling ep. P sure the Mountain was having his abominable undead way w the Septa, btw.

albvivertine, Monday, 27 June 2016 10:41 (seven years ago) link

Having Varys on the boat was probably meant to show us that this was happening a couple months later
How else would all the Tyrell and Martel ships be there too
