Right-hander Seth Lugo, who can serve in a starting or relief capacity, is being promoted to the New York Mets.

Lugo is 3-4 with a 6.55 ERA in 19 appearances (13 starts) this season with Triple-A Las Vegas.

The Mets obviously need coverage in case Steven Matz has an elbow issue and needs to depart. Logan Verrett threw 92 pitches Wednesday in Washington and would be unavailable for that role.

Left-hander Sean Gilmartin reportedly will be demoted to Las Vegas.

i seem to remember reading a story where reyes said he was going to make himself open to younger players in the clubhouse on the subject of his grave errors in judgment. if that is true, then at least some good can come from a horrific situation. major sports are not exactly places where men have been historically encouraged to deal with anger—or any emotions—in productive ways.

also, not for nothing, but can we also talk about how jeffrey fucking loria and his abject awfulness probably helped set all this in motion?

i'm not trying to make excuses. this whole situation is painted in shades of grey and i think exploring them is more productive in the long term.

Reyes said p much the right things when he was questioned on this last night. The words sounded parroted from a counseling session, but that's what people before microphones tend to do. I do think "I made a mistake" sounds too much like, i dunno, Michael Phelps after the bong photo.

it's a catch-22 in a way - there are only so many words you can say in a soundbite context. but yeah, i get that
