Best finale they've done by far.
The most fun criticisms/questions for me are still around the Faceless assassins. Can Arya only pose as women? Can they be animals too? Maybe a human but with a dire wolf's face?
More seriously, did Arya steal that woman's face before leaving Braavos? Or did she kill the woman already there at the Twins and slice her face off while also doing the brothers Frey?
― nashwan, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 14:07 (seven years ago) link
well, we last saw her in the face-hanging room, so she probably stuffed a few faces in her travel bag before peacing out
― Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Tuesday, 28 June 2016 14:28 (seven years ago) link
She probably has a little carrying case full of faces she took with her. Comes with a strap and a microfiber cloth inside.

Also a mesh pocket on the side for a water bottle

i'm guessing she killed that woman for her face but that doesn't eliminate the possibility of the travel-ready face case you know

I thought that Sansa was secretly happy with Jon's ascension to the throne because it also blocked off Littlefinger's, difficult to tell really.
Also my immediate take from the flashback scene was that Jon was actually Robert Baratheon's son but I hadn't really slept in several days by that point. Was it intentionally vague?
Awesome episode anyway, amazing shifting of deadwood throughout.

at this pt the tower of joy stuff seems entirely reliant on paratextual information - if you didn't know about r+l=j theory i don't know how you could make any sense of what it is or what it is supposed to mean
― Mordy, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 14:51 (seven years ago) link
yeah i was kinda thinking the same -- the only real information delivered in that scene is that jon snow is lyanna stark's son, not ned's. it's definitely not clear who the father is
― jason waterfalls (gbx), Tuesday, 28 June 2016 14:53 (seven years ago) link
seems doubtful she would've been worried about robert killing his own kid
― dynamicinterface, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 14:57 (seven years ago) link
I don't know why they held off on naming Jon's father. Seems pretty easy to figure out based on other stuff the show has told us about Lyanna. I guess they want to save up another reveal for next season.

They were p affectionate, maybe Ned's the father

You know what I think would be cool? Next season opens up with an entire episode flashback to Rheagar. Via Bran or not.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 15:24 (seven years ago) link
looks likely - starting the next season with Dany's attack on King's Landing already in full swing would be great too (and ending with White Walkers reaching the Wall finally?)
― nashwan, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 15:47 (seven years ago) link
I mean ending the season opener with that btw
nah Walkers won't breach the Wall until close to end of next season

Wasn't it mentioned in the episode that Dany Kru will start off by attacking Casterly Rock so that the Lannisters have nowhere to run to? Given it's Tyrion's by birthright they might be holed up there for a while.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 15:52 (seven years ago) link
hes mr bean
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 15:53 (seven years ago) link
tyrion is so crazily rude to his family it like WHAT??
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 15:54 (seven years ago) link
I think Dario thought Dany was implying he lead an attack on Casterley Rock when she said he wasn't getting on her boat but that's not her actual plan. Maybe Jaime will head there to contemplate wtf just happened tho - arriving at the gates to find servants there having a lovely party.

wonder how long it took Arya to bake those pies
maybe home ec was an optional module at Faceless Man school
― Number None, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 20:31 (seven years ago) link
maybe she grabbed a regular pie and just put an eye in there or something
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 20:32 (seven years ago) link
i didnt realize it was an eye
― 龜, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 20:33 (seven years ago) link
Maybe she enlisted her ol pal Hot Pie, although I'd think he'd grind the meat better than that.
Today I learned how Kevan Lannister dies in the books. It's pretty different!
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 28 June 2016 20:37 (seven years ago) link
where did she learn to make a pie, I think it would be hard to make pastry to the standard a lord would expect. she has to make frey eat his own sons, that's the whole point, so she'd have to cook it or it'd be obvious. disappointing the son wasn't called bentos
― ogmor, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 20:37 (seven years ago) link
shoulda been a Bean pie amirite

― ian, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 20:56 (seven years ago) link
yeah, it's much less shoehorned in the books though
really wasn't necessary to have Arya do it

Lena Headey was also good as the heavy in the Judge Dredd movie from a few years ago.

surprisingly good movie.
I just read in her wiki article that she was dating Bronn at some point IRL and then they had a mean breakup and had to be kept apart on set, lol wtf

Rewatching the episode, I noticed that Arya's face was of the woman who served wine and looked at Jaime earlier in the episode. Probably Arya then as well.
