@ByJamesWagnerBecause of the three-man bench, Collins said he told Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom to keep their cleats on during the game.
@joe_sheehan Good, because it's not like those are some of the most valuable individual assets in baseball.

Reyes leading off at 3b, Flores to bench
This doesnt make a ton of sense to me; nostalgia at best

Flores is playing 2B tonight actually. I'm more surprised they brought Reyes up so quickly.

Rubin:
Asdrubal Cabrera has been scratched. Jose Reyes moves to shortstop and Wilmer Flores to third base. James Loney enters at first base. Cabrera has been dealing with a knee issue.

well i don't expect unflinching morality from the Mets, given the Wilpons and the nightly whoring for the US military.

all the teams and their owners are entrenched in the general crimes of capitalism but only a couple hire known domestic abusers. the rockies are a business and they managed to "do the right thing" by dropping him (albeit likely for business reasons too). i don't know, i just thought it was weird no one here was talking about it.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 17:39 (seven years ago) link
xp considering the next series vs wsh, he could easily be like 3-fer-25 hitting the AS break & get relegated to more bench/utility/pinch run duties imo
― johnny crunch, Wednesday, 6 July 2016 17:43 (seven years ago) link
the Yankees have Aroldis Chapman, and his abuse case is hardly ever mentioned now, so 'liberal' NYNY
now Mets radio said Cabrera was "up all night with a sick family member"
― helpless before THRILLARY (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 18:05 (seven years ago) link
I mean there is a mlb domestic violence policy and he served the suspension that they set down after investigation and he was convicted of no crime and has no state charges pending against him
im just saying there is a "process" and its not that he is banned for life or something; right, if a team doesn't want to employ him then its their prerogative
― johnny crunch, Wednesday, 6 July 2016 18:14 (seven years ago) link
two-HR Flores!
― helpless before THRILLARY (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 18:25 (seven years ago) link
i seem to remember reading a story where reyes said he was going to make himself open to younger players in the clubhouse on the subject of his grave errors in judgment. if that is true, then at least some good can come from a horrific situation. major sports are not exactly places where men have been historically encouraged to deal with anger—or any emotions—in productive ways.
also, not for nothing, but can we also talk about how jeffrey fucking loria and his abject awfulness probably helped set all this in motion? http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/reyes-loria-told-me-to-buy-a-house-two-days-before-trade/
i'm not trying to make excuses. this whole situation is painted in shades of grey and i think exploring them is more productive in the long term.

Reyes said p much the right things when he was questioned on this last night. The words sounded parroted from a counseling session, but that's what people before microphones tend to do. I do think "I made a mistake" sounds too much like, i dunno, Michael Phelps after the bong photo.

it's a catch-22 in a way - there are only so many words you can say in a soundbite context. but yeah, i get that
― maura, Wednesday, 6 July 2016 19:58 (seven years ago) link
nice win today and glad familia broke stanton's home run streak
i think it would bother me more if it were some random team (usually the rays) that picked him up. if he's going to get another chance, it seems reasonable that it would be with a team he has history with

Harvey to DL (sigh)
It definitely sounds like Matt Harvey's issue may be at least somewhat similar to Dillon Gee's -- although we'll learn the severity after Thursday's exam. Dr. Robert Thompson specializes in thoracic outlet syndrome and vascular issues (related to blood flow). His Washington University bio lists his areas of clinical interest as: "Thoracic outlet syndrome, TOS, minimally invasive surgical techniques and other treatment to patients with vascular disease including abdominal aortic aneurysms, thoracic aneurysms, renal aneurysms, carotid artery disease, arterial occlusive disease, brachiocephalic and upper extremity occlusive disease, aortoiliac and lower extremity occlusive arterial disease, and venous and lymphatic disease, axillary subclavian vein thrombosis."
― helpless before THRILLARY (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 21:53 (seven years ago) link
Matt Harvey has been presented two options -- surgery or a nerve-block injection -- for thoracic outlet syndrome. He is weighing his options. Surgery would require four months. A block would just be a temporary fix.
Sandy Alderson said he is unsure how long Matt Harvey has been pitching with the issue. The GM said surgery is inevitable in all likelihood. The team only became aware of Harvey's shoulder discomfort after his last start.
hurry up, Wheeler
