@jcrasnick
The Sale incident began with something "silly" that mushroomed into a bigger argument, says a source. #Whitesox

Wow. Very out of character for that team.

Anyway, starter Matt Albers pitching in his third consecutive game.

Andy K, Saturday, 23 July 2016 23:27 (seven years ago) link

Apparently Sale doesn't like the throwbacks.

Andy K, Sunday, 24 July 2016 00:38 (seven years ago) link

lol, he cut his uniform up pre-game

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Sunday, 24 July 2016 00:57 (seven years ago) link

@Ken_Rosenthal
Sources say: Sale cut up throwbacks during batting practice. Upset that, in his view, PR and jersey sales were more important than winning.

Andy K, Sunday, 24 July 2016 01:00 (seven years ago) link

haha it sounds like he cut up everyone's uniform!!

FanRagSports.com first reported that Sale cut up the 1976 throwbacks during batting practice so they couldn't be worn. Fox Sports reported that Sale's dislike for the uniforms was because he thought they were uncomfortable; Sale also thought the White Sox were putting "PR and jersey sales" ahead of winning.

The White Sox instead played in their 1983 white, red and blue throwbacks, which they have worn in the past.

nomar, Sunday, 24 July 2016 02:30 (seven years ago) link

i don't blame him, look at this crap: http://s1.totalprosports.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/white-sox-1976-throwback-jerseys-4.jpeg

whoa chris sale otm

nomar, Sunday, 24 July 2016 02:43 (seven years ago) link

lol

if chris sale cared about winning, he'd pitch every day

mookieproof, Sunday, 24 July 2016 03:06 (seven years ago) link

TS: profit over winning vs. appearance/"comfort" over winning

Andy K, Sunday, 24 July 2016 03:30 (seven years ago) link

Sale could pitch in this game -- currently tied, in second rain delay -- after all.

Andy K, Sunday, 24 July 2016 03:47 (seven years ago) link

oh i'm totally on chris sale's side regarding his own uniform -- that shit would probably drive me crazy

cutting up other dudes' uniforms is admirable but nevertheless a step too far

mookieproof, Sunday, 24 July 2016 04:13 (seven years ago) link

I feel like that clubhouse is a bad environment and maybe sale should leave it, go somewhere else, maybe the red sox I'm just spitballing here

if young slothrop don't trust ya i'm gon' rhyme ya (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 24 July 2016 05:38 (seven years ago) link

Good luck signing this guy to a 100+ million dollar deal.

earlnash, Sunday, 24 July 2016 08:08 (seven years ago) link

“Right now, in the major leagues, we’ve got dopers, domestic abusers, homophobes, misogynists and even a guy who spent time in prison for a DUI hit-and-run,” one executive said. “But a uniform vandal? Dammit, we have to draw the line somewhere.”

roldy to cubes looks probable

johnny crunch, Monday, 25 July 2016 12:52 (seven years ago) link

gleyber seems like a lot for two months of chapman, but i guess you can do that when you have young stars at every position

mookieproof, Monday, 25 July 2016 13:01 (seven years ago) link

interesting in light of the now-completed aroldis chapman deal:

Dan Szymborski ‏@DSzymborski
The Cubs are 55-1 going into the 9th with lead, 53-1 going into 8th, 53-5 into 7th. The upside for *any* reliever add is limited.

if young slothrop don't trust ya i'm gon' rhyme ya (slothroprhymes), Monday, 25 July 2016 16:30 (seven years ago) link

if that's what relievers cost now, the yankees can rebuild their entire system by dealing miller and betances too

mookieproof, Monday, 25 July 2016 16:50 (seven years ago) link

looks like a better move when postseason is taken into account:

However, the Cubs have more wins than any team in Major League Baseball and are making a clear effort to deepen their roster not just to get to the postseason but to thrive upon arriving there. The structure of the postseason schedule allows clubs to more heavily rely on their bullpen arms due to the frequency of off-days in the schedule, making Chapman that much more valuable in a five- or seven-game series.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Monday, 25 July 2016 17:13 (seven years ago) link

the fewer innings given to the likes the joel peralta the better imo

nomar, Monday, 25 July 2016 17:17 (seven years ago) link

def a playoff move

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Monday, 25 July 2016 17:19 (seven years ago) link

yeah sort of feel like once you account for the inevitable regression from those great late-inning team numbers the deal makes some more sense. as a yankees fan i like it too

k3vin k., Monday, 25 July 2016 17:22 (seven years ago) link

oh, absolutely a playoff move

everyone's late-game records are like that; they're just ahead more than anyone else

dynamicinterface, Wednesday, 27 July 2016 23:25 (seven years ago) link

skeptical that demeritte will make enough contact to work out, but he *is* leading his league in homers by a good ways

pretty good return for a 31yo with eight appearances/a 27yo with 20 innings over the last three seasons

Multiple teams calling #Rockies on Logan. Why?

Boone Logan, #Rockies: 1.83 FIP, 0.862 WHIP

Aroldis Chapman, #Yankees: 1.93 FIP, 0.894 WHIP

WOW GIMME SOME OF THAT BOONE LOGAN OH GOD

He's 25; I think I'd try to work out a trade without hesitation.

clemenza, Sunday, 28 August 2016 21:46 (seven years ago) link

tearing up AAA right now too

I'd want to 1) get him out of Dodger Stadium, and 2) get him away from whatever else is bothering him (which could be as simple as carrying around the weight of those first few months on his back). If there's not a physical issue, I'd want him. I'm too lazy to go looking for parallels, but I know there have been young players in the past who were trapped in a bad situation, got out of it, and flourished.
