A somewhat patchy album, but "A Dream Goes On Forever" is classic.
― Geir Hongro, Monday, 14 January 2008 19:36 (sixteen years ago) link
i wish all patchy albums will be that good

no contest

I prefer the Back To The Bars 'dream goes on ...' version to the one on Todd. The ballads (I Think You Know, DGOF, Don't You Ever Learn?) are some of my favorites but I'm going with Heaven/King Kong.

Difficult to choose. Think I'll go for "Heavy Metal Kids".

Overall Rundgren songs poll?
― calstars, Friday, 27 May 2016 00:52 (seven years ago) link
I think that's a great idea. My ballot would be short (maybe six or seven songs) but intensely felt.
― clemenza, Friday, 27 May 2016 00:54 (seven years ago) link
Heavy Metal Kids sounds like a Physical Graffiti b side.
― calstars, Friday, 27 May 2016 00:57 (seven years ago) link
We would need more of those 70s catalogue graphics like in the steely Dan poll

"Sons of 1984"!!!
― lute bro (brimstead), Saturday, 28 May 2016 00:59 (seven years ago) link
^ Would have voted for that now, instead of voting the same way as everybody else.
― Larry 'Leg' Smith (Tom D.), Saturday, 28 May 2016 10:45 (seven years ago) link
Surprised nobody voted "Don't You Ever Learn?"
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 28 May 2016 10:55 (seven years ago) link
complaining about it being a double-lp is silly. initiation was longer than this one and it was a single! this isn't seamless like its predecessor, but it doesn't ever test my patience the way "a treatise on cosmic fire" does.

Would totally vote in a Rundgren ballot poll.

Useless begging is one of the greatest songs he ever did. Cant get it out of my head atm.
― glumdalclitch, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 03:05 (seven years ago) link
my Dad used to play "Don't You Ever Learn?" all the time on the piano, as a kid I just assumed it was a song he had written himself, since I never really asked. hearing that a big chunk of his repertoire came from this album was a very strange experience.

Well since everyone has repped for nearly every track on the album I'm gonna say 'No 1 lowest common denominator' is a one of Todd's underrated jams...can imagine a young Prince taking note of the solo...what an amazing guitarist Todd was...

Todd "major 7th" Rundgren
