I'm working on it. The order become more and more arbitrary as it goes down; apart from anything else it's hard to compare, say, Melt-Banana and Agalloch since it depends what kind of mood I'm in.

You can do mixed ballots where you can weight any number you like and have the rest unweighted where the unweighted albums will all receive the same number of (low) points. But your #100 album will get more points than it would get if it was weighted, but the higher ones wont get as many as if they were weighted.

And I think I've pushed them before, probably around when they came out, but Spectral Lore - III and Gris – À l'âme enflammée, l'âme constellée... are both modern black metal classics imo (but if you only like bm of the raw variety you probably wouldn't get much out of them)

Also... I'm not sure if many metal thread regulars/lurkers are into avant-prog or whatever but I noticed Lapsus Linguae - You Got Me Fraiche is on the noms list, it's pretty to describe in genre terms: heavy, piano-led art-rock or something like that. Something of an obscure outlier but quite brilliant in parts.

I count about 49 of these that I have owned at one time or another, and of those about 33 that I could see myself voting for. Not sure if I'll have time to try and explore more of the list, but I could probably submit a ballot with just those.

Both of those are, yes. As far as I can remember you can vote for things that aren't on the list but they're less likely to place. I tend to just choose from the noms anyway.

I'm going to need to investigate about 95% of the nominees before I prepare a ballot, I guess I haven't been listening to very much metal lately, I'm more of a "heavy rock" guy it seems...

To that end, I think the first two Tomahawk records are pretty unimpeachable, not really metal I guess but to my ears they sound like the kind of music serial killers would make.

man I never felt so old as when I just realized I've spent several years of my life in a metal/heavy rock band

I didn't care much about the Probot

Tomahawk was great live but their albums haven't really caught me yet. I think I like Patton's stage presence more than his music, maybe?

I also recently listened to the s/t Mr Bungle album and wasn't impressed. I could swear I used to really like that record.

I feel like I've already repped records like Tara, The Voice Of Steel and Oath Bound an awful lot over the years, but I'd definitely like to throw my weight behind Rammstein Mutter, the finest pop album that metal has produced in two decades, and urge people to give Sabaton Carolus Rex a chance even though the thought of enjoying power metal might sound impossible.

I hope people dont forget to check out that Absu album 'Tara' that Siegbran mentions

I think Probot is a great idea anyway, what the world needs now is a metal Alan Parsons Project.

Tomahawk's third record is super intresting, though I didn't bother nominating it, doubt they will receive any votes besides my own anyway, but Duane Denison gets his hands on a book of Native American songs, transcibed ~100 years ago, and...that's the record! Never heard anything else like it. Well worth a listen if that sounds remotely appealing to you
