Seville is great. I agree.

I want to go somewhere to write for a week, prob want good weather, maybe the chance to swim, an atmosphere of some kind, and some mixture of privacy plus access to good food and a bar or two.

I have ideas based on places I've been before (Spain, Portugal fairly extensively, south of France) but I would welcome any suggestions for somewhere I haven't.

Is Arundel worth a weekend away?

djh, any particular spots in Norfolk you'd recommend - also on the sea/walk/booze/logfire end of things

fell in love with Lisbon this winter - thinking of going back in October, but also feel like trying Porto, maybe Seville (escape from Danish darkness)

Seville is brilliant. Tho I love Spain generally, I've been there more than anywhere else and each city has its charms. Considering going to Ronda next month.

For UK, I've just come back from Whitby and I concur with the keyboardist from Slum of Legs above. Lots to do, (Cindertrack, beaches, Cleveland Way, Ghost walks, spooky abbeys, Sam Smiths pubs, rail trails, boating on little rivers etc)

Had been considering a trip to Granada, but Seville recommendations are swaying me. Anyone got any opinions on the former?

Number None, Wednesday, 24 August 2016 12:27 (seven years ago) link

It's more like a day-trip imo - not saying you'd have a bad time there but Seville is a lot more buzzing. I was there on a Monday night and the city was alive with people eating and drinking outside.

i don't think you can go far wrong with any of the cities in andalucia tho - i've been around there a bit and i liked them all in their own ways, there's distinct identity wherever you go.

Seville is hard to fault, but Granada is quieter (in a good way) if still fairly touristy. I'd say Granada's worth an overnight stay as walking and getting lost (and eating an drinking) around the old town at night is super fun.

Chuck_Tatum,

We've really enjoyed here:

http://www.norfolkhideaways.co.uk/our-cottages/our-cottages/276-knot-cottage

and here:

https://www.norfolkcottages.co.uk/north-norfolk-coast-cottages/stiffkey/1554-bridge-cottage?utm_source=shortlist&utm_medium=email

Both a short walk to the coast path.

The former village has two pubs, the latter has Stiffkey Stores and a pub. We make a log burner essential when doing a search for somewhere to stay in Norfolk. Cley is nice, too. Holt is worth a visit, particularly if you like places like: old-town.co.uk/

We've stayed here (no log burner) but it was strangely claustrophobic/exposed and people seemed to think it was okay to knock on the door and ask if it was a holiday let. And I prefer the landscape further west:

That's great. Really like the look of the Stiffkey one - will investigate further. Thanks!

one month passes...

Has anyone got any recommendations for Siberia? Tomsk looks pretty manageable as a three or four day trip from Moscow.
