@ Mark, how i voted for singles is the collection of all songs on the singles themselves. the actual song, or single in this case, is for the main roll-out.

Bee OK, Thursday, 25 August 2016 22:01 (seven years ago) link

i'm going to run through this fairly quickly as i started way too late today.

Don't mind the b-sides on this, but "Roll With It" was very close to my "worst" pick. Just such a honking, hectoring attempt at a motivational anthem.

it didn't make my ballot, so i sort of agree with you.

Bee OK, Thursday, 25 August 2016 22:24 (seven years ago) link

The Mark & Lard parody is good, but the actual Oasis song is terrible.

and all the politicians making crazy sounds (snoball), Thursday, 25 August 2016 22:24 (seven years ago) link

"Roll With It" was an okay song when I first heard it on Morning Glory, but I learned to hate it more after learning that it was released as the lead single for the album in the UK.

MarkoP, Thursday, 25 August 2016 22:25 (seven years ago) link

it's probably my least favorite song on the album after the title track

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 August 2016 23:27 (seven years ago) link

Contrary to the track listing and clarified on subsequent releases (including The Masterplan), "I Am The Walrus" was not actually recorded at the Glasgow Cathouse, but at a conference for Sony music executives - the Gleaneagles Hotel Sony Seminar - who had gathered to hear Creation Records' new signings. Noel Gallagher stated that the band loved this particular live recording but were mortified to learn that it was made during a rehearsal at a corporate event. The band instead picked a venue from their tour schedule at which they had performed a similar sounding version, and added crowd noise taken from a Faces bootleg CD, in a bid to make it seem like an authentic tour recording.

i was more upset that you didn't submit a ballot over Turrican not submitting one. you are the one who volunteered to run this, but that might have been my fault as well. i know you said in the poll thread that you wanted to sign up but i think it was a running joke as well. this is why i took over because i didn't confirm that you would actually run it.

so were good.

Sorry to have missed the climax of the rollout, but a fun poll all the way - got me listening to these guys and having their songs stuck in my head again in a way I really would not have seen myself ever doing again. I had "Supersonic" #1 but can't complain at the results at all - - - though a bit sad "All Around the World" couldn't crack the top 50. "Some Might Say" making it to #3 is maybe the biggest surprise to me, not that I dislike it (had it at #8) but would not have figured it for a consensus pick over such celebrated cuts as "Acquiesce" (one that I never have gone for, really).

there's an interview of NG where he says that McGee went crazy when he first heard the "sunsheeeine" part and thought it was absolutely brilliant. then he says, after that, LG started to pronounce every daily word that way.

I tried to listen to BHN yesterday. oh what a mistake...
I was depressed, bored and exhausted after a few tracks and couldn't even finish it (but I made sure to check at least a part of all the songs).
it sounds terrible, the songs are terrible... awful.
I saw an interview of NG saying when they were signed, he had already written all the songs for the first 3 albums : all the best ones were put on DM, those that couldn't fit in on the first album were on What's the Story and... the remaining trash was on BHN... and you can tell !
It may have been reduced to an average single : "d'ya know what I mean" / "all around the world" (interlude) / "stand by me"...
