Terry Collins said his preference would be to give Noah Syndergaard extra rest rather than bring him back Sunday on regular rest in order to delay the slot that had been occupied by Rafael Montero. Of course, that would necessitate using Jacob deGrom and/or Steven Matz on Sunday against the Twins -- or a non-optimal option that isn't clear. There is no intention of using Montero in the rotation again.

Jacob deGrom will start on Sunday. He had been sidelined with forearm inflammation.

Lucas Duda will rejoin the Mets as soon as Saturday. He has been sidelined since May with a stress fracture in his lower back.

Well, Degrom now shut down for the year.
