The negatives for the album sleeve photo shoot turned up on eBay a couple of years ago, the buyer paid $15,000 for them and as you'd expect there's more than a fair few outtakes...

Yeah, Long Distance Winner gets my vote too. I like this version of Crystal a lot too.

There's still no "official" (ie not shady) reissue of this, right?
For the longest time, I thought it was Lindsey's fault because he's a perfectionist and didn't want to reissue it without tinkering with it first, but then I read that he's ready to put it out asap and now I don't understand wtf is going on.

How has no one yet mentioned the supreme fucking awesomeness that is "Frozen Love???" (my vote btw, clear winner)

stevie: "I was crying when we took that picture. And Lindsey was mad at me. He said, 'You know, you're just being a child. This is art.' And I'm going, 'This is not *art*. This is me taking a nude photograph with you, and I don't dig it.'"

Christine McVie would have told the photographer to fuck off!

how come this has never been released proper?
― piscesx, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 23:13 (seven years ago) link
Its original Polydor release was proper. But once it went out of print, it stayed out of print.

Wasn't it "Frozen Love" that prompted Fleetwood to get together with Buckingham in the first place? Anyway lots of great stuff here but I'll probably vote "Stephanie". Gorgeous piece of music, and Stevie's birth name! How sweet.

Yeah, that's true! Buckingham is still playing 'Stephanie' live in his solo shows...

Y'know, I think I actually might prefer the version of 'Crystal' on here to the version on Fleetwood Mac. I think both versions are in different keys, but I'd have to A-B them to double check.
In any case, it's interesting to listen to this album alongside what the Mac were doing in the early '70s, and it's not difficult to see what Buckingham and Nicks brought to the band (a lot) and the elements of the Mac which were already in place (they already were a kinda West Coast soft rock group by this point, plus Christine McVie was just about to start peaking as a songwriter)

my thesis was entitled "races are run: the concept of 'winning' in the songs of lindsey buckingham and stevie nicks"
― conrad, Thursday, 15 September 2016 14:36 (seven years ago) link
Hahaha! Both of those songs ('Long Distance Winner' and 'Races are Run') are Stevie songs!

I made some analysis also of e.g. 'never going back again' and 'go insane'

Great album

I have seen Buckingham solo and he did not play "Stephanie" which would have been incredible, but he did play "Holiday Road" which was probably just as well.
The ripple of sudden "oh yeah Lindsey Buckingham wrote and recorded 'Holiday Road' from that Chevy Chase movie" across the crowd was tangible

conrad your collegiate experience sounds 100x better than mine was and I am jealous

I'd actually forgotten about 'Holiday Road'!

According to this interview:http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/q-a-stevie-nicks-and-lindsey-buckingham-reveal-lingering-tensions-in-fleetwood-mac-20121205There was talk of a reissue with new + bonus material? And maybe even a Buckingham Nicks tour behind it? And Fleetwood Mac had 8 or 9 new tunes in the bank? And this was all before Christine found a wild hare and decided to join the band again?
Where is all of this music? WHERE IS THE MUSIC

some of those new tunes ended up on the EP in 2013
