having never seen nor heard hamilton the fact that the songs were rewrites from that didn't resonate with me but it was still really good.

His 'never gon be president now' is from when Hamilton's scandalous Reynolds pamphlet was published, detailing his extramarital affair. It was a pretty perfect moment.

thought this was a really woeful episode. and for a broadway star miranda was surprisingly poor in the sketches - usually find that people with that musical theatre background are well suited for cameo appearances in comedy but I found him surprisingly poor. less said about the broadway rapping elements the better as far as I'm concerned.

but the main problem with this episode: the writing was garbage. even the trump/clinton wasn't all that great and with that cast and the week's events that should really be a slam dunk.

the writing on this show has been garbage since the new cast came in. which is too bad, cuz I like the new cast a lot! but it seems like they never have anything to work with

yeah i like a lot of the cast and sometimes they make it worth watching, unfortunately the sketch's are often so poor there's no saving them.

I don't think Lin-Manuel considers himself a particularly good rapper, when he free style battled on Fallon against Black Thought his response was 'why am I here?' He is a pretty good writer, though, and his monologue had some great lines. On the election

That's good writing to me? It seemed to me the show didn't know where to go with him, though.

The one where the guy phoned his mom was pretty sweet.

this was a good episode most of the way through

Better than the Lin-Manuel episode;

Some good stuff near the beginning but really petered out by the end.

The lampooning of the second debate had a really calming effect on me. It was so awful and cruel, to see it lampooned seemed relaxing.

thought this was a pretty awful episode again but much better than the miranda episode. nadir for me was the robot sketch, which was just excruciating. chonk definitely the highlight of the show, and weekend update wasn't too bad - not a huge fan of jost and che in general.

why do i keep watching this show? haha.

i liked the robot sketch. I liked the hamster sketch at the end too.

I didn't laugh out loud much but I really did love that bizarre clusterfuck of a sketch, had it aired later it'd be an all-time 5-to-1 classic

Just watched Chonk, and it's funny, but if that was the highlight...

It was. But agree with Will that the limo sketch should've been later, it would've capitalized on that weirdo energy they get around that time. Sometimes.

thehamster sketch reminded me of early SNL; where it wasn't 'funny' so much as, well, here's a concept: what if who's afraid of virgina woolfe was played by hamsters? Ok, let's build a whole bunch of props and a set to support this dumb idea.

hamster sketch was really well done i thought. only highlight of the show for me. acting really sold it.

The sink was pretty good as well. And the short film - not so much the sketch, though Vanessa Bayer was good, but the short film itself. This season has been pretty weird at times. Shame about the live sketches, they're mostly rubbish, but a lot of good stuff around the margins.

i hadn't seen that character. it was funny. she is crushworthy, though I like cecily strong more in that department. and I'd be happy if Nasim Pedrad came back.

I think the child-actor character started like her first season on the show. Totally worth searching that sketch out.

the final sketch was good again this week too. feel like this has been a really strong season? note I have barely watched this show over the past 10 years.

In general, this cast kills it even when the material isn't that strong.
